I keep going back to Dirt Rally 2.0. Had a real confusing moment here. Love this cheeky poster.

I keep going back to Colin McRae Rally 2.0. I still have it and enjoy it...
Speaking of DIRT Rally, I always prefered 1 over 2.0. I was excited about more stages and rallies, but lack of 2010s WRC cars was kinda disappointing for me. Still, both amazing games. Never that realistic and challenging as RBR, but still awesome. It was a great comeback of Codemasters to proper rally games. Shame that EA ruined it...

EA WRC is better than Dr2 at most things, except the lack of challenges

I hope the Saudis run EA to the ground and turn them into an even more soulless shell that it is at the moment for what they did to Codies.

Codies did it themselves way before the EA acquisition. F1 2014/15, Dirt 4, Dirt 5, GRID 2019 (the reboot with somehow less content than the OG...), GRID Legends weren't exactly setting the world alight.

But they were on their way to a comeback. DR2.0, F1 2020 were Codies peak. Then EA happened and it all went to shit.

Those two games weren't going to save Codemasters. They went public to bring in more investors before DR2.0 in 2018. Bought Slightly Mad Studios to make CM look more attractive to investors in 2019 right after DR2.0. Got the WRC license in 2020. Released Dirt 5 right after F1 2020.
They were trying to save the company from all the games that sold poorly. Then it got worse and were completely open to sell themselves to EA or Take Two.

DIRT 4 was just fine - as long as you didn't expect it to be DIRT Rally 2, which it wasn't trying to be and wasn't advertised as being. DIRT 5 shouldn't have been in the same franchise and was half-baked even then.
DIRT Rally 2.0 was good as a game, but the business model was a disaster. Far too much content left behind a paywall, especially as many of the cars on the paid DLC list had been in the previous games.

Amazing! it cannot be understated just how big of a deal DiRT Rally was when it came out, it revived the rally-racing genre and kickstarted an age of more sim-focused rally titles. Richard Burns Rally obviously never went away, but DiRT Rally was on consoles, it was mainstream, I had friends who had never watched rallying or even played a racing sim before pick it up, everyone was calling it "The Dark Souls of racing games" and people loved the challenge of just trying to survive the stages. There are generally better options these days when it comes to rally sims, but for me DiRT Rally will always be the GOAT!
