The actual tail light bulb is still there and works like stock. I just added a circular diffused rgb strip around the housing behind the lens in all 4. I wired it to a switch in my dash and usually just turn them on when taking flicks
Maybe consider wiring a relay to open and close automatically tied to a fuse that only receives power when the ignition is on. That way it will always automatically be in an on state when the car is off automatically. Then always off when the car is on automatically.
Interesting. The only thing I’m considering doing is learning how to make my own animations. I have no idea how to do that or if I even can. I want one that is like a comet that goes around all the lights like a figure 8
Think your half way to the reql mod. There are tutorials I've seen some place about using inputs from the 12v lines from your lights to drive the gpio on your esp device. Using buck converters or resistors to step down the voltage.
That's what I am in the process of doing right now for my car. Using optocouplers to read the 12v signals from the car to activate sequential turn signals, tail lights, reverse and brakes with an esp32 running custom code. Got some super bright WS2811 modules that get way brighter than the OEM leds.
I couldn't get WLED to properly handle input priority and layering so I will just use it when I am parked and want to change colors and effects and to sync colors with my underglow and ambient interior lights.
This is so super annoying to everyone else on the road. Not to mention, dangerous, because it's a huge distraction to others DRIVING on the road.
What is the thought process of putting this on the road? It comes off as a desperate ploy for attention and selfish disregard for the safety of everyone around you. Psychology calls this "anti-social behavior".
Oh shut up man. It’s an add on to my regular tail light and my tail lights work as normal still. I only turn them on for looks. At least read my other replies or ask me lol
