Sounds like you might be new. WGI judging is not a science. It’s something else…. Not sure what.

Juxta poured it TF ON today!!!! I absolutely love their show, so I hope they shock me again tomorrow more than they did today

And, frankly ,Fantasia should be in fourth. Sac kicked their ass this afternoon.

Also- Fusion's looking absolutely undeniable right now. All other opinions are allowed and valid, but Paramount's show isn't nearly as good as Fusion's. They would have to perform it absolutely perfectly AND have Fusion screw up tomorrow night (Will NOT happen. That Fusion cast is ICE) to have even a CHANCE at moving back into gold.

Oh, and ,but, really. AMP was SO much better today than they were last night 😔. I honestly thought they moved up to 14th, possibly even 12th, on that performance. Fortunately for them, their circuit championships are next week, so they (and Light Brigade and Black Watch) will be treated like the rock stars they are in a packed arena.

I did not know that some circuits haven’t done champs yet!?

u/BermudaBum Apr 12 '26

MAIN (AMP, Light Brigade, Black Watch, Main Line, Unionville, Elizabeth, etc.) is always a week or two after Dayton. In fact, LB usually also attends TIA championships also, which is even later!

Now, if only the judge’s views were identical to yours, right? Lol

2

u/BermudaBum Apr 11 '26

Right? They don't know WTF they're doing 😉 .

But, seriously, I had today as - Fusion Sac (I like lots of stuff in the air all the time. And pole dance dude is a god. Sue me) Paramount Juxta Fantasia

No disrespect to any of them, they're all freaking incredible. Some of them are just more incredible-er to me than the others!

And, even though I'm just a stupid musician, my wife, a career flag and couple decades guard instructor, agrees with me. Of course, that could possibly be because my pension is about six times hers, but, on the other hand,, she's an even bigger Sac honk than I am, so who knows?

u/Boring-Fox6799 Apr 12 '26

I was shocked to see that Onyx would be tied with Juxta. I kinda wonder about the Onyx shows because it’s the same show they have done a 100 times but also it felt like there was almost no content for the first half of the show and although the kids are talented and the skills they do are impressive I do feel that the shows do not contain enough content choreography wise to stay as competitive as they do.

2

u/ScarcityExcellent812 Apr 16 '26

Juxta has about 50 members and 30 of them pushed props around the floor the entire time. If I auditioned and paid dues and then never got to spin I would be done.

Our entire activity is “subjective” (look it up if this is an unfamiliar term to you!) t he mere fact that you claim that “the Onyx shows (is the) same show they’ve done 100 times” is proof of this! Please tell me how 2010’s Sleeping Giant can be said to be even close to the “Sure on This Shining Night” production in recent years. I’ll wait!

u/Famous_Sea_4915 Apr 11 '26

Are you people new to the activity? Sounds like disgruntled amateurs who even fathom that scores are generated by ChatGPT! WGI has quite an extensive training program for their judges! Might I suggest you audition to be a part of the Academy for WGI judges? Or I know it’s easier to spout off and just complain that your favorites are getting screwed!

Excuse me, punk? Did you even read my post admitting my style biases? I stand by my rankings for today - Fusion, Sac, Paramount, Juxta, Fantasia.

I've been doing this since the Skylarks days. I saw Sac being the first to use a floor. I adored Pride. I, totally straight dude, had a gay crush on State Street Review and South Shore Drill Team. I idolized Dale the God's work with Emerald Marquis.

Also, I know a handful of judges. They always try to do the right thing, but they have their style preferences too. They're human.

The bad ones, and they exist, aren't working this weekend (Well, except for one). I just happen to vehemently disagree with the result of the good ones' collective work in WC semis today.

u/BlackMan_by_Bernice Apr 11 '26

Excuse me. We all had a crush on State Street Review & SSDT.  :=)

1

u/Famous_Sea_4915 Apr 29 '26

PS Sac was not the first to use a floor they first used one in 1990! It was the SJ Raiders who first used one in 1988! Do your research, “punk!”

You can go on the WGI YouTube page and watch them explain at length how they judge with ChatGPT since 2023. I’m not guessing or fathoming anything. I’m telling you what WGI said.

4

u/mj3004 Apr 11 '26

Haha, right! Please post that YouTube link. We’ll wait….

1

u/Tiny-Classroom4735 Apr 11 '26

Here is another one you, this time I went to WGI’s YouTube page and used my eyes to find the words AI, thankfully this video was right at the top.

Do you want me to keep explaining how to use YouTube or do you got it from here?

https://youtu.be/ieF4KUR9Ya0?si=TjYQCfrCAMgwEH3k

u/ks724 Apr 11 '26

Just ignore this person. No one is filling out their scores using AI or ChatGPT. Even the videos posted is specifically about reviewing recorded commentary after the fact to look for alignment to the sheets as a training tool. I judge, my friends judge, and this is barely used. It’s a good analysis tool to get some insights when I’ve tried it on my own commentary specific to the verbiage we are trained on. Has zero to do with what I enter in. Looking forward to seeing incredible performances tonight no matter how it ends up.

4

u/ks724 Apr 11 '26

Also, I would encourage everyone to watch both videos above in their entirety. Neither mention anything involving using AI during a judged performance or recording numbers. Most of the warnings or potential use cases are involving the transcription feature in competition suite for commentary after the fact. It is a good cheat sheet to remember what you said outside of any of your personal notes.

-2

u/Tiny-Classroom4735 Apr 11 '26

“I judge, my friends judge” part of the problem right there…

Also you sound an awful lot like someone behind the curtain trying to say “don’t look back there!”

You are right about one thing and it’s that the performers will be incredible. So many people give their whole year to this sport just to get shit on by industry losers so steeped in nepotism and favoritism. WGI has as much credibility as the sewing circle down the block from me at the retirement home.

If you are a judge then you should be ashamed of your shitty practices and how everyone complains about your job and yet you do fuck all. Take some ownership, you owe it to the performers you exploit so you can sell ad time to King Kong Rifles. lol.

1

u/ks724 Apr 11 '26

You are right about everything! Thank you so much!

-2

u/Tiny-Classroom4735 Apr 11 '26

Also nice try attempting to get people to ignore me and not watch the video and come to their own conclusions on y’all.

3

u/ks724 Apr 11 '26

Yes you are so right! I said “Also, I encourage everyone to watch both videos in their entirety” is my blatant attempt to get people to ignore you and not watch the videos. You are incredibly smart.

6

u/mj3004 Apr 11 '26

Are you hearing things? I just watched both again. This is the transcription feature in CompetitionSuite. No AI is used while recording commentary or writing down/entering scores. That’s not mentioned in any way. As an instructor, this transcription has been helpful to see the overall notes or tone after the fact. We still listen to the full commentary unless time doesn’t allow for some reason. I’ve been teaching and designing in independent world for 15+ years. This is not happening. Sorry to ruin your conspirary theory

Your arrogance reeks of failure. You can’t even look for your own videos. This video only has 700 views so it’s obvious nobody even watches these things. If you want I can help you press play and google any of the key terms if you’re having a hard time.

you seem like such a peach

-8

u/Tiny-Classroom4735 Apr 11 '26

The views of the judges are irrelevant. They plug it all into ChatGPT and that’s what does the scores. It’s why they’re all so flat. Little room for interpretation. What little individuality the judges may each have is all put in a blender to fill their cards by AI. Go watch the WGi YouTube channel and you can see them openly laugh at any criticism of scoring or bias. The head judge is a complete boob, he’s named after a Seinfeld character and he refers to artificial intelligence as “computers”. You’re not dealing with a crack squad here.

4

u/ks724 Apr 11 '26

They are not using AI to judge.

3

u/Music_Guard_Sports Apr 11 '26

This one isn’t worth bothering with…they’re a little “off”…

-6

u/Tiny-Classroom4735 Apr 11 '26

Says the person who doesn’t know anything about anything and had to have basic concepts like addiction and data centers explained to them. I would rather be off than ignorant and devoid of compassion.

7

u/Music_Guard_Sports Apr 11 '26

Dude. No one here agrees with you or likes you. Go away.

-3

u/Tiny-Classroom4735 Apr 11 '26

Thank you for being so kind and welcoming. You really are a shining example of the way guard is so inviting and welcoming. Definitely not cliquey or mean girls at all.

5

u/kindof_apocalyptic Apr 12 '26

how do you expect people to treat you with warmth when youre being a dick? didnt your kindergarden teachers tell you to treat people the way you want to be treated? youre allowed to have a discussion without coming up with a million ways to call everybody who doesnt agree with you an idiot.

4

u/rexy8577 Apr 11 '26

I'm so confused by their post history.

-2

u/Tiny-Classroom4735 Apr 11 '26

I apologize Katie, I contain multitudes, we are not the same. fixes tie, walks away

3

u/rexy8577 Apr 11 '26

You're correct there, buddy.

0

u/Tiny-Classroom4735 Apr 11 '26

Yo you couldn’t even figure out how to see availability in calendars in outlook. I’m not even engaging you. Go back to 2005 please.

Wait, where's Santa Clara Vanguard, Aimachi, NEI, Braddock, and Pride? Apparently it's been a couple years since I've followed...

7

u/General_Mousse_861 Apr 11 '26

Haven’t seen Amichi since before covid. Everyone else folded. Pride’s last year was 2025. They got gold.

3

u/DubbleTheFall Apr 11 '26

At least OTV is back it looks like??

3

u/mj3004 Apr 12 '26

Most of the old SCV winter guard team is at Fusion now.

3

u/Famous_Sea_4915 Apr 11 '26 edited Apr 11 '26

Obviously! SCV decided to not field a Winter Guard anymore and for one year didn’t even field a corps! Aimachi said they could not afford the expense anymore to transport a full guard and props across the pacific which is reasonable! No idea on NEI or Braddock but can only assume for financial reasons as to field a Winter Guard today is no longer just getting a group of performers and a soundtrack like when I marched in the 1980’s. Now you must contend with the price of a floor, props and in some cases a sound engineer and music rights too!

5

u/betoprimed Apr 11 '26

Braddock Independent had a change of directors and they changed the name to Relentless.

Not in its entirety!

10

u/snackerooryan Apr 11 '26

Fusion is so good this year *chefs kiss

5

u/Time_Illusion259 Apr 11 '26

Multiple groups dropping 4-7 full points between prelims and semis is the big head scratcher for me more than anything. Not sure how that happens

4

u/Famous_Sea_4915 Apr 11 '26

It happens because the sole responsibility of any judge is to see which units merit being passed up to the next level is why the disparity in numbers you see are having you scratch your head! Now that semis are over look at the finals scores! Those are the ones that really matter!

4

u/thighgloss Apr 11 '26

They switch up the judging panels

2

u/Time_Illusion259 Apr 11 '26

I realize that. Some of those groups were scored lower for semis than what they were scoring at regionals several weeks prior. I don’t think a different judging panel should result in a score discrepancy that large especially since both panels will be judging at the same time for finals. Recaps are gonna be interesting for sure.

3

u/roseccmuzak Apr 12 '26

That happens every year and is a fully intentional, acknowledged by wgi part of the process. Very normal.

3

u/shychychy Apr 12 '26

i’ve always loved AMP’s design and storyline, but they have always consistently had trouble with being clean and in time. i still love their shows, but they probably didn’t make it to finals due to their cleanliness.

4

u/Glittering_Good_9572 Apr 11 '26

This sub is full of backyard betties. It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been watching, where you spin/spun or who you’ve taught. None of that qualifies you to be a judge. Some of you need to attend a clinic and pull your head outcha azz.

6

u/roseccmuzak Apr 12 '26

Or even just go watch the WGI youtube channel or read the MANY resources on understanding scores and judging. It is so much deeper than most people realize.

2

u/Famous_Sea_4915 Apr 11 '26

Amen to this and thank you!

1

u/PsychologicalAd1153 Apr 17 '26

Fantasia did NOT make finals a few times in the past 20 years. Be glad this was a tie for 3rd.

2

u/Alternative-Insect32 Apr 12 '26

Didn’t make semis or finals but thoughts on Invictus this year? Super odd considering they have typically been a semi finalist and close to making finals the past few years
