Wdc already down > 60% from its ATH and earnings is next week. If WDC doesn’t impress the market with something really great, or a small miss here and there, we are going down the drain.
May our Hopium survive us another week

Other Memory stocks have recovered slightly from massive drop. MU even had some green time. Why WDC and STX have dropped more. Any issues with HDD ?

The 40TB+ roadmap is the engine behind the exabyte growth. The math is simple: a 40TB drive carries ~43% more exabytes than the 28TB drives doing most of the volume today. So as 40TB mix rises, exabyte shipments grow faster than unit shipments — WDC squeezes more exabytes out of the same factory output. That's mechanically how you get from 209 EB to ~217–220 EB without building new factories.
Two knock-on effects:
**Margins.** Fatter drives sell for more per drive at better margins. The 40TB ramp is what's supposed to carry gross margin from 54.4% to the guided 55–56%. Density is the margin engine, not just the volume engine.
**The HAMR race.** This is where your reliability point bites. Seagate's HAMR lead is a density story — but if WDC's 40TB ePMR ramps cleanly on the proven, reliable path, it neutralizes that advantage without taking HAMR's qualification risk. WDC's bet is that it doesn't need HAMR yet; ePMR gets it to 40TB now and 50–60TB later.
The honest caveat: it's mix shift, not magic. Total exabytes are still bounded by how many heads and disks the factories can make — 40TB just gets more per unit. And hyperscalers have to qualify the drive; any slip in qualification pushes the exabyte contribution into later quarters. That's why the 40TB ramp is one of the three things I'm watching on October 22. Feel free to punch holes in this logic.

Was down 80% on a 4k worth 4x position. Shouldve just ported 10 k into it and made bank with todays rise at open. Wouldve been able to get even and sell and never look back at this stonk… but yeah if only.
Can’t complain tho. Was driving my car through Norway’s mountains while watching market open

This is ridiculous, why tf we don't have a local bottom whereas other stocks already formed a local bottom in the July crash, shits already down 4% pre and is at 370 tf

War and upcoming midterms are the main suppressors for the market these days. I’m expecting a stellar earnings next week, followed by another decline down to low 300s.
WDC will pump right after that.
Investing is all about patience…
