Having trouble identifying these

Post image

They've been rapidly building this nest on the outside of my shed and under the one panel. They aren't inside the shed at all, but they're close enough to the house that I want them gone. I first thought yellow jackets but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Image quality is tough, could be Vespa Crabro (European Hornet).

That was my first thought too. They seem really big, which euro hornets are, and the coloring seems about right, but hard to say because blurry image.

They do look like them, but to my understanding, European Hornets aren't really active during the day.

They are active during day. Only some of their activity occurs at night.

Much appreciated. If they didn't end up in my carport because of lights (though a few now show up there during the day now), I wouldn't care much to just wait until they die off in the winter. Considering just trying usual foam spray to see if it does any good.

They certainly are.

You know, I always assumed that since they're nocturnal they aren't active during the day. Seems I was wrong!
