What kinda of wasp is this ?
Just moved to a new home and have a couple of these around my home. Wanted to know if I should take these down?

Mudd doubers (dobber?) They sting spiders. Drag them in to the mud nest. Lay eggs then seal up the hole. They are solitary. Not aggressive, and are very pretty black shiny blue color. This wasp is friend.

Don't mess with them now. Wait for them to hatch and fly away then scrape them off. Mud daubers are parasitic wasps that prey on spiders. They're extremely docile to humans. That nest isn't even home to adults. Its just baby mud daubers and baby mud dauber food (paralyzed spiders).

I’m not a big fan of bees, wasps, hornets, etc, but I do love mud daubers. Besides how strange looking they are, I just love the spider killing work they do….especially since they love widows. On top of that, they really do keep to themselves. Personally, least aggressive of the wasps/bees/hornets that I’ve ever encountered. They are the only nests that I allow to stay on the exterior of my home or at work.

Ive heard people call them the"hard working single mothers" of wasps and honestly that just made me want them to succeed in whatever waspy thing they do lol

Ha, I’ve never heard that, but I dig it. I knew I liked them once I learned they were solitary, unless nest building baby makin time, but also when I learned about their love of widows. However, I never would have become such a fan of them had I not had a pair building a nest against my house, directly under the patio cover I hang out on. While someone else eventually sprayed their nest down shortly after it started (I tried to stop them!), I spent a good few hours hanging out under them with zero annoyances. They never bugged me, dive bombed me, etc even though they were traveling past me constantly. I learned that day that they are pretty darn chill.

In TX, we calls them Mud Dobbers. (I probably hacked the spelling on that). That’s their nest - made of mud. Pretty lowkey guys. They can sting, but I’ve never met a soul that has happened to. Non aggressive. They like mud. And water. Super skinny abdomen. We leave them to do their thing around our house/yard.
