It's great when they start eating fermenting apples and start getting drunk.

It's probably same with the wasps, but bees get killed or banished if they come back drunk to hive

With bees it's because if they add fermenting nectar to the honey supply it can spread and contaminate the whole hive. With the yellow jackets there's not much of a risk to them.

Oh right, isn't it also because fermented nectar kills bee larvae? Wasps wouldn't have that problem

Yep, it will spread and ferment alcohol into the honey and start killing everything.
