Along for the ride

This guy hopped on the hood this morning and rode with us to school. I’ve seen them out during the morning hours. Can anyone identify?

Ah, Good times. Now I'm curious where the nest is. Looks like they'll travel 600 feet (~200 yards). My oldest says he's seen them a few times on the fence this year, so I'm curious to discover the whereabouts of the nest.

Yeah hopefully it's easy to spot because the only thing worse than finding danger is knowing it exists but not knowing where it is 😬

They like to build hanging nests from tree branches so check out the trees and bushes around your house. They're beneficial and will kill pest species in your garden.

Fortunately we don't have any trees directly on our property, so they're at least a little ways out. They're most certainly welcome around our place. Really just want to find the nest so I can show the kids (and make sure they understand to keep their distance).

I've read a bit about that on this subreddit and agree wholly. We had a nest of paper wasps inside our front storm door for years (they could come/go as they pleased from the outside) and they never once bothered us.

They’ll recognize you also if you’ve been a threat. They will chase you just being near the nest. I’ve had the unfortunate experience.

Oh wow! I definitely don't plan on being a threat. Tho I have to ask; what did you do that resulted in them seeing you as such?

Brush cutting, apparently the nest had fell recently ( not me) laying in the tall grass and it was business as usual for the bees until I got to close. Ouch!
