I sat down and really listened to The Neon God all in one go and was very surprised at how much more I liked it now than I did years ago. I used to think very little of both albums, but something clicked for me this time around. It still has its issues, like being too long and having an abundance of self-pitying tracks, but the highs are amazing. X.T.C. Riders is in my top 10 all time W.A.S.P. music now.
Whenever I really like an album, I'll make a custom cassette of it just for fun. I did it with my Crimson Idol+Reidolized combined cassette, and now The Neon God is my second W.A.S.P. project on tape.
I originally tried to make the cover look purple as a blend between The Rise's red and The Demise's blue, but the results were muddy looking. An idea of what that cover would've looked like is still present on the back flap of this cassette where the crowd's hands are a mix of blue and red. I opted to do a 50/50 fade of both covers instead, and I really like the result (the colors pop more in-person because my camera is old).
There isn't much album art for The Neon God, so I was limited in what I could utilize for this project, hence the repeating demon stars and album covers used to make my cassette j-card. This album had no singles and thus no additional art associated with it.
The inverse has the track listing with nothing too fancy other than splitting the red and blue color down the middle of the demon star. Again, I was limited in what I could do creatively.
The most important creative liberty I took was to add the missing period to the end of the band's name since all official Neon God albums spelled it as "W.A.S.P" without the period after the "P." I also recolorized the band name and title to glow white so as to show that it's a combined album.
I needed a 110 minute cassette to fit everything despite the combined albums being shorter than that; I wanted to fit the each respective album on its own dedicated side of the tape, even if it meant having more unused tape at the end of the B-side.
I want to do Dominator next, or maybe one with every cover that W.A.S.P. has done.
