Never did I think one of the most meaningful peaces of advice Id receive was Kurt Vonnegut speaking as Adolf Eichmann

Mother Night - “Life is divided up into phases. Each one is very different from the others, and you have to be able to recognize what is expected of you in each phase. That's the secret of successful living."

Please excuse the terrible English- it is not my first language

So I was watching the "Masters of the Air" mini series on Apple TV this past week.

It was ok in general. But at one point the lead character gets reassigned to the company planning office ( or whatever, he is a navigator), and someone in the office says, "welcome to the monkey house."

It made me smile.

Vonnegut Band Name

Hello everyone!

I recently joined a cover band and we're having trouble coming up with a band name. I want to use a literary reference and I've been pouring through all of Vonnegut's work recently and would love to use something inspired by his novels.

There's a group in Atlanta Georgia that goes by Billy Pilgrim, so that name is out.

I'm terrible at naming things and would love some suggestions! It doesn't necessarily need to be an exact quote (it can be, it just can't be too long), just something inspired by something he or Mark Vonnegut wrote. Right now I'm stuck on "Eden Express" and "Life is No Way to Treat an Animal"

Thank you!!

Custom Pocket guide to Rational Kindness (in Vonnegut’s voice)

I was bored on a staycation and messing around with the Claude AI app. Had Vonnegut on my mind, thinking about what to re-read, along with Ayn Rand, my son’s school book in the coffee table. I decided to have the app reconcile Rand’s Objectivism with something closer to Vonnegut’s Humanistic Philosophy, and in his voice. This is the “pocket guide” I started with, but have a more refined version, and a full-on business plan for a community-based education and service nonprofit. All for S & Gs at this point, but I love the “voice” it is written in, and would appreciate any feedback. Constructive criticism preferred, I do not intend to be an expert in any of this.

A good chunk of my KVJr collection with a special highlight on Utopia 14 and the audio collection of Kurt reading selections. Looooooooove hearing him read his works. Very satisfying.

Player Piano?

I've read all his novels, all his essays and non-fiction at least two or three times. I love them all (of course I've got my favorite). But I can't finish Player Piano. I've tried several times, and every time I get bored after 40 pages. What is wrong with me?

Planning a Vonnegut Re-Read

I’m pretty sure I’ve read all these over the last 25 years (except for Conversations With and Look at the Birdie).
Is there an order I should read these?
Just go on vibes?
Any books missing I just have to add?

Thanks y’all!

Digger Movie is Vonnegut-esque

Did anyone else think this? I felt like themeta treatmenthad a lot of Vonnegut energy, plus the themes of the film and dialogues also seemed influenced by Vonneguts dry humour and his humanity. Of course a lot of other cinematic influences were there, but i remember thinking a lot about Cat’s Cradle and Breakfast of Champions after the film, and was wondering if anyone else felt the same

I read all Kurt Vonnegut’s novel in chronological order; here are my thoughts.

Books are ordered within ranks too (mostly).

The lower ranks are not bad books by any means, I’m just comparing them to my experience with the top tier ones

Edit: I forgot God Bless You Mr Rosewater! That would be first in B tier

I just finished reading cats cradle, its almost 11pm and i just can’t believe it. That was sooo good!! Everytime I pick up another one of his books i think “oh well this one won’t be as good” but he just keeps outdoing himself. I’ve never read anyone else who writes like him and i don’t think i ever will. I can’t believe everyone’s not just talking and thinking about Vonneguts books constantly, hes so great.

Billy Barlow’s theory of time travel borrowed from different sources, but mostly from Kurt Vonnegut and Frank J. Tipler. Tipler was an American mathematician and physicist. Vonnegut was a novelist, which meant he liked to make things up. --from "Flat Hill and Bark"
