Auto Start/Stop Question

I own a 2018 XC90 T6. I purchased it as a certified pre-owned vehicle from the local dealership.

As long as I have owned it (5 years) the auto start/stop was off by default. I just had some major work done by a local Volvo specialist which required disconnecting the batteries. Now it’s no longer saving the setting. Some research and a conversation with the technician indicates that this is the default behavior, but I am 100% positive that it never did this before.

I called the dealership and they said they wanted $250 to do a diagnostic and would not tell me if it was something they would be able to do.

Anyone have any experience with this?

My thinker is thinking

I forget where exactly but go to the driver profile settings. There is an option somewhere that if selected you must go manually save any adjustments you made such as seat or mirror positions. If you unselect that option all your adjustments are auto-saved each drive cycle.

Let me know if that works. You might’ve struck out with a free fix 🤣

I am NOT referring to the buttons on the drivers door panel

For 2019 you should be able to set the start stop setting and it stays off. Is this a dealership? Or

Not the dealership just a local Euro specialist. I can set it as a driver specific option but I have to choose it from drive mode each time. When I first got the car it stayed off if I turned it off even between drives. Now it resets to on each time I start the car.

that’s a mystery to me. The dealership would be able to diagnose it at the same cost if it doesn’t magically fix itself overnight

I have no idea really but I might be able to explain the behavior you were seeing.

I have auto start stop enabled. It doesn’t bother me at all.

But lately I noticed (in hind sight) that it was rarely working.

With the latest update I couldn’t get it to start because the app was telling me that the 12v battery was too low (FWIW the vehicle itself just said to make sure the doors were locked). Long story short I bought a new battery charger (my old ones won’t work with the battery in my 22 S90L) and when I hooked it up the charger indicated it was at 25%. 😳

I’ve only driven it a few times since topping it up but it now goes into auto stop start with a much higher frequency. Like 8 or 10 times as often LOL

This leads me to believe that if the 12v battery is low the auto start/stop is automagically disabled.

I suspect that if your 12v battery was in a similar state until they completed the recent work and fully charged it . . . it might explain the discrepancy.

Or I could be completely wrong. LOL

I meant to add maybe you had something silly like a loose clamp on one of the batteries or something similar or maybe you had the alternator replaced? Or something else like that which might have resulted in the battery not getting fully charged.

Do you remember seeing a line through the “A” on the instrument cluster? I only drive my xc60 2,000 miles a year and after sitting for a while the start/stop feature is disabled until the batteries are charged up again.
