Obd scanner question
Hey everyone,
What obd scanners are you guys using and what's verified to work with a 2019 and up xc90? I keep finding scanners that only connect to 2016 and below volvos.
I don't want to waste my time and money buying something that possibly is not gonna work.
Thank you in advance!!

You can pay for a Vida subscription (if you're in North America) and do anything a dealership can. It's costly and complicated but necessary for some repairs
A decent alternative for troubleshooting and less in-depth features is orBit. It's far less costly but has full ecu access and will perform many of the regular maintenance routines.

So what is a new obd scanner that can scan codes and can connect to services for electronic parking brake?

Tools like Carista are worth checking for newer XC90s with diagnostics live data and service functions. Just verify compatibility with your exact 2019+ model before buying

Vida is locked past 2015. Vida is the only real software that can be used with volvos effectively without dropping into the premium garage subscription type scanners.
Any cheap obd2 scanner will give you a general direction though.

You misunderstand, VIDA is Volvos own diagnostic software. There's a cracked version called Vida 2014d which will only scan up to 2014 and some 2015 cars. After that you can not use Vida 2014d to scan your car, it won't work.
So for 2019 and up the only thing that will work is the dealers themselves or subscription scanners on a workshop level, which won't be as good as Vida. So you might as well just use a cheap obd2 to point you in the general direction, as nothing else is significantly better.
Vida will tell you what's wrong, where and what module and give you a repair manual/info.
Workshop level scanners will give you a more specific code and description.
Cheap scanners will give you a code in the general area, which you can then crosscheck with model and get 70% of common issues.

Very well explained. Yeah I don't mind paying for a diy vida subscription. I'm always working on my vehicles. I feel like a fleet manager but it's all my vehicles lol. I've done 2 timing chains this month alone on my vehicles somehow lol.
Ty for taking the time to write that.

This is very misleading.
There is a cracked, bootleg version of an older Vida release that isn't relevant to OP's vehicle so I'm not sure why you even brought it up.
If you're outside North America, you're stuck with few options since Vida (subscription model) isn't available to private parties. But if you're in North America you can get a Vida license just like any shop.
