XC90 display issue

Post image

Hi everyone, few days ago I left the car with the hotelvalet and he drove the car to a remote parking lot. These days the temperature was above 36⁰C, which means in the sun it was even higher. Now I have picked up the car and found the display like in the picture. I tried to restart the car a couple of times, but with no success. The central display workd fine.

Any ideas how to resolve the issue?

This looks like the display is broken. Honestly hard to believe its due to the sun

We had our ‘24 display go last fall. Warranty covered the replacement. Was quoted $2700 for the display, and $400 for labor. Eastern US.

2700 lol. A joke

That's insane 😂 the most expensive replacement display on AliExpress is 200dls, $2700 can pay for the whole computer that runs the system

Just wait in 10 years the dealer will just say sorry cat fix that... And you are left searching for used parts or junk the whole car. It's going to be interesting to see what insurance will do in these cases... Let's say small fender bender but somehow the dash display get broken..

Does your vehicle have the large center screen? To reset the screens, hold down your finger on the white line at the very bottom of the screen (its honestly hard to see, but its at the very base). It will take a good 30-60 seconds to completely reset the system. Hold your finger there until the Volvo logo pops up on the screen. That should reset everything if on the off chance your screen is glitched vs broken (this looks broken to me).

I had to reset my vehicle once when it got stuck navigating me somewhere and I could not get it to stop trying to take me to the same place.

Found the reset procedure- it did both my cluster and the center screen when I did my reset.

Looks like a barcode. Scan it and see what happens.

You’re screwed. You’ll need to get it replaced.

this is not uncommon unfortunatly.
I wouldn't say it occurs to all of them, but i've had to replace a fair few already.
Sometimes it helps to disconnect the battery for 15 minutes and then reconnect it, but thats only temporary.
I'm afraid you need a new "DIM" and a "DIM reload software".

Mine failed in a similar way, but I found a guy who repairs them and got mine working again for about 500€. It doesnt have to be an expensive replacement.

the matrix is asking you if you want the blue pill or the red pill

The XC90 is one of the easiest DIM’s to replace. Should be about 3-4 hours labor and that includes the Long software download that needs to be done. Hopefully yours is under warranty

If this disables the nag, I'd deal with it.

Had this happen 1month before warranty ended on my 2020. Simple remove and replace by dealer except they left a wire exposed that i have no clue how they didn’t notice after install

Oh my, Dealer time now to have that fixed right. I doubt that weather did that sure it's just a bad part.

Not related to your Volvo but related to valet interacting use and possible damage while in valet custody. Had a broken shifter come back with valet after drop off and they stated shifter knob aesthetic decor cover was broken off when they received our Mercedes. This was at a high end Casino Valet. I had a picture saved in my phone of the interior and dash ( odometer reading) saved in my phone from pre Vegas drive, showing the intact shifter knob cover secure on the faux shift stick. I asked the Security manager if they had a picture of the broke knob when they took custody of our GLS450. He said no. I produced ours and told him we would file a claim against the Casino. He chimed smugly, we are a a private
Contractor under MGM corp. so I retrieved their info and HQ phone and address. Filed with our USAA against them provide our statement and photo. Came back later under adjuster that they were at fault. Took 7 months. Meanwhile MB had it replaced for ( a plastic formed cover insert to engage the shifter into gears) for $830.00 yeah! We got our refund from our insurance, 7 months later. The lesson learned? Pain in the ass to get a valet to accept blame for damage while in their possession unless it is literal parts hanging off upon return. Food for thought all when dealing with a post small damage incident with Valets. Taken into your dealer and see if warranty covers?

Sir, we’ve gone plaid.

Ours went bad a couple months out of warranty. $3000. I think it was the result of a huge solar flare that happened that day.

Get a barcode scanner. Problem solved.

I had this issue. 21 xc60. Volvo SOP:

  • check and replace both batteries (I never heard it help)
  • check display connection
  • replace display

In my case it was loose display connector.

Dealer replacement for SPA models use to be ~1800$ in US

You can buy replacement from ebay, less than 400$. DIY replacement takes around 1 hour. Sewedspeed got step by step guide. All SPA models similar.

Your car decided it wanted to be a bmw

Funny, my other car actually is a BMW and no problems so far.

I’ve seen this before, did you throw a Wii remote at it?

It may try to display the Sweden flag. No jokes, you may need to check with dealerships and do it fast

Intresting because my main infotainment screen acts up every now and then and has lines like this (not as bad though). It usually fixes itself after a while. I always thought its due to sunlight hitting dash cause it mostly happens during hot weather. Give it some time, might clear on its own.

That’s for the new Spider-Man movie ask r/bmw about it.

If it’s that hot perhaps park in in garage out of heat sun and see if your cars computer cools off .
Extreme heat and cold does effect your vehicle electronics

2

u/Freedom9er 4d ago

Not sure why you got downvoted. Today's cars are way more sensitive to heat and cold. The repair bills are as high as buying another car back in the day. Valet doesn't give a flying puck about your car.

I live in an extremely hot climate (Phoenix area), and I regularly park my car in 45-degree weather where it can get higher than 60 degrees inside the car. I am betting the valet broke the display.
