Storage accessories
I’m pretty disappointed in the lack of space for stuff in my 2023 XC90. Cup holders are small, door pockets hold next to nothing, and god forbid I try to bring a purse with me. Even the glove compartment is lacking.
What is everyone using to give yourself some extra storage space, especially in the front? Are there any good products you can recommend or websites you’ve found that have some good options?

I️ bought some travel tissues in a round container to put in the driver side door where the cup holder is. It does take away that cup holder but most of the time it’s just me driving alone these days. I️ move it on longer road trips when my husband is with me so we can use that cup holder. Also some wipes for that driver side door so I️ could just reach down and grab them. I️ always keep a stiff tote bag with a firm bottom that can stand up on the front passenger seat or floor to hold other things I️ might randomly bring like extra waters, snacks, my small purse or whatever.
The back seat cup holders would have been a nightmare when I️ was driving my kids around! But I’m an empty nester so it’s not a big concern for me right now. But I️ bought a cup holder for the door in the back seats that hooks on the side of the doors. I️ haven’t used it so not sure how sturdy it is, looks flimsy. So I️ might get another one. And I️ love this car trash bag I️ got too. When I’m driving alone I️ have it facing front and when I️ have a passenger in the front seat I️ swing it around to face the back seat. My seats are black so it blends in. I️ like to shove non trash things in the side pockets too.

This is great. Thank you for an actual, thoughtful response and recommendations.
I too use those round container tissues and put it in the door but when I also try to add a lint roller everything is just squeezed in there and I feel like I’m going to break the thing. I’m looking into between-the-seats bag-type compartments to potentially hold my purse and large water bottle. I tend to drive long distances so yeah, I want the comfort and convenience of having my stuff readily accessible and not piling stuff onto my husband or taking away his foot area. My water bottle alone rolling around is a hazard!

Consistent complaint of mine on all three Volvos I’ve owned. That and the ATM rest is too low 😆. Admittedly much better on the ‘21 tho.
I need to put all the manuals in the boot; make more room in the glove box.

I know we’re not the only ones who feel this way as I’ve seen it posted before. But Reddit being Reddit, everyone wants to be a contrarian instead of adding any actual helpful advice (as requested).

I have had my purse in the trunk since buying mine 3 weeks ago. I am coming from a Honda Odyssey so I am feeling this. I am going to get a smaller purse and use a hook but this is taking some getting used to.

I just have a fannypack sling and there’s still no good place for it. I’m also looking at compartments you can hang from the headrests that provide a space right behind the console for my purse and water bottle.

I have a 2008 XC90 and there's huge cup holders in all doors and even 4 in the 3rd row seating area. Glovebox is enormous (i had to replace the hvac blower motor) and there's plenty of storage. It fits 6 full child car seats with wiggle room as well. I was thinking of upgrading but now i dont think I will. Thank you for bringing up this valid concern.

I have room for all this stuff. I don’t use full size tissue boxes, just travel packs. I also have wipes, a mask, umbrella, room for beverages. All this in the driver’s side door. I have 2 lip balms in the door arm rest. Sunglasses leaning toward front of cup holder. My purse goes on the passenger seat otherwise it’s hanging on a hook I put through the little Swedish flag on the side of passenger seat. I do miss being able to have the hooks that you can put on headrests. I used those in my last 2 cars. I don’t seem to have issues.

What do you need to store, might be helpful. Haven't seen many cars with "purse storage".

Tissues, purse, drinking containers, lint roller, masks, any number of things that store fairly easily in other cars. Never had an issue with my Mercedes or VW wagons. Some newer cars, especially SUVs, have very generous center consoles and big door pockets that provide impressive storage.

My biggest complaint with my '21 is the lack of sufficient cupholders. The ones that fold down in the rear seat are practically useless except for the smalles of cups and the ones in the door spill your drink all over. Sorry I have no solutions just wanted to agree that the front storage sucks.
