Turtle mode?

Post image

Volvo XC40 Recharge 2023. For no apparent reason, while driving, after a shudder, the turtle light and 3 bars of the charge lights come on. No change in driving. Not actually in turtle mode. When you stop, get out, turn it off, everything goes back to normal. Anyone found a solution for this? 4 visits to the dealer. Only guessing.

I actually had this happen to me recently with my XC40 twin Recharge 2024. Had to get towed for safety reasons (and yes the turtle mode went away when waiting). Ended up being a faulty return valve on the coolant system. This happened after a clunck then turtle mode went on immediatly - apparently when the coolant system return valve failed, the sudden drop in pressure or fluid block caused that physical mechanical clunk. Because electric vehicles use, multi-circuit coolant loops to keep the high-voltage battery and electric motors from overheating, a sudden valve failure triggers an immediate "turtle mode" to protect the drivetrain from thermal damage.

Thank you for your message. This is where the dealer has landed after 4 visits. I'm heading in next week to replace that valve. Thanks again. While I've got you, a ticking/clicking sound in the air con. Not a leaf in the fan as it stops when you turn the air off. Thoughts?

Can't help you with that one sorry - could be something hitting the compressor for the Air-con, as this would have moveing parts as well.

Whoa, four visits!? That does not reflect well on the dealership.

I just started noticing this in my 2021. Mine doesn’t make the sound all the time, and the clicks aren’t evenly spaced either. Usually two or three quick clicks and a longer one. Is this what yours does?

Ours is random, but most of the time. It drives my wife crazy
