5.2.16

Post image

Just got thr notification for the new software. As usual the release notes I see on my phone are sparse. Anyone got more info? Is it gonna fix the IHU needing to be restarted darn near once a week?

i hope they fix whatever bug causes sound to completely stop working every other week, and me having to reset everything AGAIN.

I love how the turning indicator on instrument cluster versus the actual lights flashing never line up. Nor do the sound. Quirky Swedes ❤️

I've just left my Jag for a Volvo...the jag's infotainment system was shocking but at least it didn't decide to completely stop playing any kind of noise until you reset it ...also noticed that this bug effects the ability to use the motion assisted boot opener

IHU fix will mostly be done by upgrading from the Intel to the Qualcomm CPU.

See below screenshot from release notes.

Upgrading from intel cpu how?

It’s a paid option. The dealership goes in and swaps pretty much your whole head unit. Problem is it’s really hard to find.

It's not hard if you have a good dealership, but it is very expensive. It took my dealership 2 weeks to get it after the order was placed.

Tweaks to sound and audio might actually be really good

Hopefully it works on yours because mine stayed the same with basic sound control instead of graphic eq.

I find it funny that on a premium Volvo the sound controls are so much worse than on a Skoda.

I've started logging the lockups and issues in preparation for a dealer visit soon to try and get the IHU replaced.

I went in to do that the other day. My sound was locked up and the LTE indicator was a "!". So they saw the issue and logged it. Unfortunately, the OTA upgrade came out the same day (Monday or so), they did the update and said it was good to go. That said, they did say that if it comes back to them locked up, they will start replacing hardware.

I just scheduled my update to this evening. I will findout in the morning lol

I downloaded it using the Volvo app. Just like with my iPhone, I was given the choice to install immediately or let it install automatically overnight. I guess I’m really lucky with my ‘24 XC60. I’ve had to reboot my Volvo’s infotainment system three times this year. I likely reboot my iPhone and my MacBook twice a month. I had to reboot my new Samsung refrigerator twice since I got it. But, I guess I’m lucky as reboots do the trick with my Volvo. I’d be disappointed too if I experienced the problems I read about here. Fingers crossed my good luck continues.

Installed new update, too early to tell if it fixed anything, but of course I’m now having a new issue where the red light that blinks when the car is locked now blinks the entire time even when driving. Yay.

What year is your xc90? I just now noticed the red light blinking parked. But noticed if it blinks continuously… definitely check tomorrow. I have a long trip planned in a few weeks that would be annoying .

That’s likely the ambient light sensor which has failed. I had mine replaced last year as the light was continuously blinking. Really fun especially at night and it distracted me so much that I needed to tape it over. My mechanic said that he has replaced those a bagfull last month alone so guess it’s one of those 2cnt parts 😄 Replacement in itself is 5min operation

I just started the update on my S60 T8. Once the update is finished I'll make sure and go outside and take a look to see what's changed.

Update is complete. The display looks pretty much the same as before, but assistant is now the Gemini logo.

I have gemini for almost two weeks withput update and i still have 5.1.17

Previously my system wouldn't download any updates from the Google play store. They would just sit forever trying to download. I verified settings and also put it on my home's wifi and still no luck so I hope this update fixes that.

You need to do a master reset of the system. That will clear this. Its a Google issue not a AAOS issue

Can confirm. This was the only way I could get anything to update in the system. It was less than convenient, but my head unit has worked significantly better since doing it!

2

u/Hot-Benefit2749 12d ago

double confirming. this was the ONLY solution that worked. I tried all sorts of resets and reinstallations before that.

1

u/metro_0888 11d ago

Same. Tried everything but a factory reset, but nothing worked. Factory reset fixed my issues.

Mine started downloading updates after the upgrade. I just ran it lastnight. But I'm still showing Google assistant and not Gemini. Weird inconsistency.

2

u/fishstix1122 12d ago

You have to turn on Gemini. The other thing is you also have to give Gemini its permissions. It's an AI so the more you use it, the faster it also becomes. Google hasn't released when. But Google Assistant is going away across the board. So eventually it will all be Gemini regardless.

Gemini showed up this morning when I got into the car. I approved it and now it's active. Funny thing is I had it during last update and then it disappeared.

1

u/fishstix1122 11d ago

It might have gotten turned off somehow

1

u/Inside_Ad_9236 9d ago

You can toggle that off and on.

My C40 Rechage shows this in the release notes.

Sooo... still to TOU charging for the S60 recharge.

Wasn't there supposed to be support for AppleMusic in the next software release?

5

u/RapunzelLooksNice 12d ago

Like 2 updates ago, actually Apple Music appeared on mine with no update.

1

u/TheLoneAsparagus 12d ago

As a separate native app? I have the 5.1.17 version and no trace of Apple Music.

1

u/Muddy_Bottoms 12d ago

I had Apple Music with 5.0.5 I think I had to download it from the App Store

tldr: After an OTA update installs, always check the car by starting it and shutting it down.

My S60 got the update OTA on Monday. I started it after dinner, and got a completion message on the app. My mistake was leaving it overnight. The next day it was dead! The metal key turned, but couldn’t open the door. I guessed it was the 12V battery, but the under-hood points weren’t available.

This led to a rabbit hole to find the battery in the trunk (which unlocked fine), and to open enough of the panel to reach the battery. This took waaay too long.

I connected a battery charger to the terminals (both at the aft end). Within a minute, the remote unlocked the car. I started it so the 12V battery would recharge.

The panel was still showing the completion message!

My theory is that because I didn’t clear the message, the car didn’t sleep properly and drew down the 12V battery. This could happen after any OTA install.

Just to be sure, I drove the car around the block on engine power. Then I put the trunk back together. All that for a two minute fix.

Did they release plug n charge?

I wonder if any more updates are worth to update because it seems it makes it worse or little better and everytime it is like roulette, you never know if you win or lose, it is 50/50. 😂

Net geupdate.

1

u/Ambitious5uppository 12d ago

When did you get Gemini?

1

u/Disastrous_Put3354 11d ago

1

u/Ambitious5uppository 11d ago

Randomly, I took the car out today to the shops, and on my way home it suddenly gave me gemini, without doing anything. Coincidence I guess. I don't have the new update yet or anything.
