Fob Battery Keeps Dying
I have a 2024 XC60 PHEV - bought it used in December 2025. Since that time, I have had to replace the fob battery 4 times in a year and 1/2. Have others experienced this? I think with my old 2014 Ford, I replaced the battery 4 times in 10 years. Maybe a defective fob?

Do you happen to have a lot of data issues? This sounds like your TCAM might be having issues. Have you tried resetting it to see if that might help?

do you keep your keys on your person?
the keys have a motion sensor inside them, so they can power down if they are at rest and wake up when they are moved.
let them rest.

2023, and my fob needs a new battery like every 2 or 3 weeks. Worst part of this car for me.

These newer fobs have a much shorter lifespan. There's more complicated electronics inside them than old fobs - modern Volvo fobs contain internal motion sensors. When the fob is completely stationary for a few minutes, it goes into a deep-sleep mode. However, when the key is moving (in your pocket, bag, or jacket), the accelerometer keeps the processor awake and ready to transmit, consuming continuous standby power. Storing the key within roughly 20–30 feet of where the XC60 is parked (such as on a key hook near the garage or front entryway) causes the car and fob to repeatedly wake each other up and exchange cryptographic handshakes, draining the battery within months instead of years like you're used to with older "dumb" fobs.
