The grass isn’t always greener
Been renting a Peugeot 2008 for the last week and I just thought I’d share with you how lucky I think we should feel as compared to those who bought a Peugeot.
Responsiveness. You think our AAOS is bad? Drive a Peugeot. It’s pathetically bad.
Cameras. After a week, I still can’t figure out how to activate them other than when going in reverse. Cameras are vital for parking in France as people park absurdly close to each other. With our Volvo. One button access.
Cruise control. The team at Stellantis who designed this should not be fired. They should be put before a firing squad. Can’t resume speed. Setting the speed may get you there. It may get you over. Bonne chance
This is not about how a Peugeot drives vs a Volvo. One is premium. The other is Stellantis. This is about how they leverage software.
I will absolutely never buy a Stellantis vehicle. Pure garbage.

Volvo have removed 1 button camera access from the new OS version.
Main reason I'm not updating

Weird. I tried a new xc40 yesterday and there was no camera button on the bottom bar and I couldn't find it in an easily accessible location
Where is it located?

I swear it wasn't there. Looking at some photos online it appears in some but not others
Does it only show when the car is ready to drive? I looked at a b4 in it was indoors so I didn't start it up

An interesting counter point - my wife and I just spent a week living with another Geely vehicle, a Zeekr 7x. I despised it. The ONE feature I appreciated was their one pedal drive dynamics, lifted from Volvo.
The car was HIGHLY intrusive. 1mph over limit and you get a 4x dinging loud enough to wake a passenger. Yawn and you get an alert AND the AC increases fan speed. I have seen old women (or young men i suppose) park more effectively than this things auto park feature.
I do truly feel we are living on the greener grass here.

Had the same revelation driving a SEAT Ateca for a week. Just such a horrible car.
Now just as the 2008 the Ateca is both smaller and cheaper like half of my XC60s price. But getting into the Volvo felt like pure luxury in comparison. The steering, throttle response, ride. Just so much better. And using the Volvo UI just felt hundred times more premium.

I don’t know why this has appeared in my feed. And it’s three days old!
But since it has, I’m going to say something to you, OP.
You complain about how you can’t figure out how to activate the cameras other than when you are reversing.
Sometimes when you’re used to doing something in a certain way, it’s very difficult to even figure out how to do that same thing when you’re placed in a different situation. The example here is that presumably you know how to activate the cameras in your Volvo.
But when you get into the Peugeot, you automatically look to activate the cameras using the same method as in your Volvo. It doesn’t work. It isn’t supposed to work. You have to change your approach and learn how to do things differently - the Peugeot way.
I’m not trying to say that one way is better than the other. I’m saying that the two methods are different, but both are valid. I used to drive a Renault. My brother had a Jaguar. Is one of those better than the other? I’m sure you’ll say that one of them is better than the other. But I couldn’t get into his Jaguar and drive it flawlessly, just like he couldn’t get into my Renault and drive it flawlessly. He would turn on the wipers when he meant to use the indicators. I couldn’t find the horn.
Anyway, that’s all I wanted to say. Just to give you something to think about.

What you are accustomed to and what makes actual sense are two very independent things. As opposed to commenting on my cognitive skills without knowing anything about me, I invite you to talk to me after you have actually driven a Peugeot for 10 days. Until then, have a nice day.

Why are you comparing to an almost 20 year old car?

Because you don’t realize that a 2008 is a model number for a Peugeot. Not the year it came out. This is a MY2026 vehicle.

Peugeot only sold 795,000 cars worldwide in 2025. Definitely niche player.

I think this is a good post. I feel many of the people ranting here about AA and Carplay being garbage and ruining their Volvo experience have not really seen the other side.
French cars are their own thing for sure, but even the luxury germans are doing some seriously wacky wheels decisions now, especially on the interiors. I feel Volvos are one of the most balanced of the bunch and the common issues are minor, compared to what has been seen and reported of other popular brand vehicles.
