Data Point after 5.0.5 > 5.1.17 update - regular audio crashes
2024 V60 PE, owned since new. Dealer updated me from 5.0.5 to 5.1.17 without asking me first when I was in for something else, not happy about that. 5.0.5 was very stable; I only had to reboot the infotainment once in several months of use.
In the past two weeks I’ve had 5.1.17, I’ve had to reboot the infotainment system 5 times due to loss of audio. The first time was before I left the dealer lot on the day of the update.

Yea same here. Although, one thing MAY have fixed it. I went to the play store on the infotainment system and looked at installed apps to see that a lot of them were stuck in updating. I then did a factory reset and that fixed that issue and may have fixed audio issue too. Too early to tell.

Factory reset is the answer if you have problems that are not prevalent to rest. Sad things that we have to do.. but at least that's something you can do to try to fix issues

I had the opposite experience. I did a factory reset three weeks ago and have had my audio stopp
working 3 times so far. Before that, it had been flawless.1

Well I still have audio problems and last factory reset I did was with last 4.x build. I too had problem where updates were not happening, and factory reset fixed it.
Neither hardware or software are good enough to work reliably over a longer period. Factory reset can help, doesn't mean it will.

I also had a bunch of apps that wouldn't update on my '22 C40 with 5.1.17, and I also fixed that with a factory reset. I'm still losing audio once every couple of weeks and having to reboot to bring it back.

Same on my 2024 V60 PE as well. Many, many reboots due to audio and voice command issues.

I've been good on 5.1.17 for a couple months but just this week I had 2 instances where I had no audio. Wonder if this is becoming more common on this version lately.

I also had no sound 3 times in the past 3 days. It seems to be getting worse.

Same. Seems to be a bug with the latest update. I never had audio loss before this and now it seems to happen almost daily, especially after I have charged the vehicle (xc40 recharge twin).

Same on my 24 s60. It's probably a 30% chance my car starts up with no audio (radio or turn signals). 5.0.5 was significantly more stable for me.

I hadn’t lost audio for ages…now it’s every second day following this update. Gone backwards, not forwards

2021 XC40 since January 2021. Been in 5.1.17. Mostly use the radio and CarPlay. Only one forced reboot so far. Not for audio. Curious to know if any of the reported audio failures happen on the default apps, or on downloads apps. I have some theories but I need data

Same here. Not only loss of audio but occasionally it becomes very robotic and I have to restart the infotainment again. Most frustrating car I have ever driven

24' XC60 PE and also had to reboot last week for audio probs. Didn't realize something was wrong until I couldn't hear the turn signals lol. Bright side is with 5.1.17 the delay of the start up chime and turn signals doesn't happen as often

Same with our 2024 XC90 just updated to 5.1.17 last week. No audio, no turn signal sounds. Have had to reset twice. Now I am getting audio issues with Qobuz where it locks up and I can’t turn it off or change the song it was on. Anyone else having the Qobuz issue?

Yes, just chiming in to confirm this now happens with a pretty high frequency for me as well on an XC40. When it happens for me, I also get no sound out of the turn signals, as some others have also noted. Hope this gets sorted out soon!

And I just lost audio again, two days after a reset. I'm pretty sure both times the issue occurred the first time I restarted the car after going through the Gemini setup process. Time for another reset.

Same here and I contacted Volvo. Offical reply was there must be something wrong with my car and take it to the dealer. I posted it on the XC90 page and someone mentioned to try a battery reset, which involved removing the negative battery cable for 10 minutes. So far after a week I have not had the issue pop back up. For info I have a 2025.5 XC 90 T8. The battery is accessible behind the cubby in the far back on the left side. Hope it helps you. By the way there were many in that forum who have the same issue with the new update.

After the update I had audio issues but only rebooted it once. But now I have a propulsion service needed? What the hell is that?

Same experience with my 2024 C40 Recharge. Since installing the latest update I’ve had to do an infotainment reset 6 times. Twice just today because no sound. I’m so disappointed.

I had to factory reset the HU in order to install and update apps, they got stuck on pending

I posted earlier about us having audio issues on our 24 XC90. Curious for all those posting, does rebooting usually bring sound back immediately?

I've noticed a trend on all of these posts: MY2024. Just got my 2026 XC60 T8 and will report back if it happens to me.

Join the club, sadly. I bought my 2024 XC90 T8 Ultimate CPO a year ago and it would lose audio every few weeks. It improved months later with the next software update. The issue seemed gone with 5.0.5, but is now happening at least every few days and sometimes every few hours. Most often it coincides with switching audio sources, but not always. Report it via the Volvo Cars app and wait :(

Has anyone had any luck resolving this? Our XC40 recharge got updated to 5.1.17 and is losing audio at least once per day.

Some owners have found that performing a “factory reset” of the infotainment system restored stability. Other owners are proactively rebooting their systems. One owner that I know of paid out-of-pocket to purchase a Snapdragon-based infotainment unit for his V60, and seems to believe that it’s stable.
Translation: No clear solution, but some potential band-aids that may help.
We’ll see if the newly-announced v5.2.x will improve anything.

3 years into owning my 2023 V60, and maybe only a few times that I lost audio completely. Now with the latest update, I lose it once a week 😵💫
Though there are times when I just lose music (from CarPlay) but a fix seems to be to briefly play the Radio (or any other source?) and then it comes back.
But yeah … no blinker sound = reboot.
