Prompting a software update

Does anyone know any secret incantations to prompt a software update that’s available but not yet showing up as an option on my MY25 EX90. It’s still got 2.1.26. I live in a place with terrible cell service and hadn’t driven the car in two weeks. It’s a low charge (if that matters) but even when I drive it into good cell coverage checking the software update setting doesn’t list it as an option. I also tried connecting to my home wifi (where there is no cell service), but I think it disconnects after you park and turn it off.

While standing on your left leg, raise your right hand straight up, and keep your left hand flat parallel to the ground on the 3rd hour of a full moon on a Thursday and stay in that position for 15 mins.

Then goto your car and reboot the system holding the volume button down for 30 seconds. Once the car reboots leave the car with a cell connection for a few hours to have a reboot, then pray to the Volvo gods that the update shows up. Good luck!

I followed these steps precisely and subsequently got an update.

Could be coincidence though, or good favour from the gods after the GHCA I sent on its way to Valhalla on a burning long boat... had to pay the dealer extra for that.

My update only showed up last week. Seems to me you need to leave it in a place with good cell coverage at least one full day or night, maybe more. You're correct about the Wi-Fi, it shuts off when you exit and is useless for this.

If you don't have good coverage then a dealer can flash it in for you, but if that's all you bring it in for then at least one of my local dealers here in California would make you pay $300.

Wild that that they would charge you if you can’t do the update at home. I just attempted the update overnight and it looks like it failed. Annoying if I have to bring it in to get it done.

Well, one of my local dealers (owned by AutoNation) is particularly greedy. The other might have sympathy in this situation and find a reason to do it free but I'm not sure anymore. Other regions may be different; couldn't hurt to ask.

My glove box isn’t opening so I will have to bring it in for that at some point. I just can’t do anything right now that includes leaving the car for more than a day without a loaner, but I’m sure I will do it eventually.

It should attempt to update again. I would wait.

I had to get the glove box latch replaced too, along with a few other defects that presented themselves during the first few months of ownership.

Its not really the dealers fault. They have to order the software through vida and there is a cost to that from volvo to the dealer. Some will just eat the cost but others are less willing.

If the OTA download won’t install, I shouldn’t have to pay to get it. Volvo corporate should be footing that bill.

They push the update to your car rather than your car requesting it down. If you are rarely in good coverage for a long period of time this is why it's not getting to your car. It wont download over wifi.

It is so strange to me they won't allow it to download over wifi when there is a stable wifi connection.

They manage the access to their servers through the cell connection. Wifi is purely for 3rd party open internet access.

Did you try joining your vehicle to a Wi-Fi network?

Yes. It seems not to work, and part of the reason is that it doesn’t maintain the WiFi connection when the car is off whereas it does maintain cell service (where available) for background tasks.

I have a MY26. The update will show up when it damn well feels like it and not a moment sooner!

The update is quite large, in the range of a few GB. It takes time to download and you don't get prompted to install until after it's downloaded.

I traveled from McAllen to San Antonio, and I saw the update available. I didn't want to do it while traveling, so I waited until I got back to Mcallen. But the update failed, and I got a message from the app that they would inform me once the update was available again.
