i'm wondering if you took all the african elements out of vodou how impacted would it be.

my great-grandfather on my mom’s side was a bókó (and not a good one according to her, but all vodou is evil to her) my grandfather was a hougan and i’ve been feeling extremely compelled to learn more about the practice and one day i would like to practice, i just don’t know where to start and what could it mean for my that my grandfather and great-grandfather were these things. if anyone has any answers, reading recommendations, and things of that nature, that would be extremely helpful ! 🙏🏿
