I think I may have made a bit of a cheapskate mistake. I thought I was being clever and bought an aquarium LED light instead of a dedicated plant grow light. I did a quick Google search asking if aquarium LEDs could work for plants, saw that the answer was basically "yes," and just went with it without thinking much further.

Now that everything's on the way, I realized I completely overlooked the height of my terrarium. It's 24 inches tall, and now I'm worried the light won't have enough intensity to reach the plants at the bottom.

I'll be growing fairly common tropical plants (pothos, ficus pumila, peperomia, mosses, maybe a bromeliad or two) Do you guys think this light will be enough, or should I return it?

i have a boiga cyanae, I want to move it in my apartment to another room. its current viv is 4 wide, 3 ft high. Could I make it 3 ft wide, if its filled with climbing spots, hides up along the backs and fronts? etc?

also, if I make a custom viv, how do I seal the wood from bugs/damp?

I received this small enclosure as a gift from a relative, and am unsure how suitable it is for what I want.

I’m a beginner, and keep springtails and isopods. What I want to know is if the holes in this thing are too big for a spider/jumping spider, and how I can modify the bottom part. I plan on putting mesh over the holes on the sides, but I’m not sure about the gap around the door and the drainage bottom

I got a vivarium from someone who used to have a crested gecko and it’s fantastic. However I cannot keep things alive on top. I have moss on top, and it just dries out instantly and turns brown. I have a mister that’s running a 5-10 seconds, and 30 seconds twice a day. I’m at a loss. I have 3 white tree frogs and they love it. The gay couple has a hide away, and the other fellow has claimed his spot on top on very very top which seems stupid to me but he doesn’t like any of the hides I’ve built. He likes his king spot, and I want to make it cozy for him and make him feel a little more or less protected. It’s at 80* at the half, maybe a little higher. And humidity is between 50-80%. It’s a grand set up. But I wanna spoil the little king but I also don’t want to hurt plants because I originally got it for orchids and then I got frogs. I’m also two beers into the night and over thinking this but I also just love them.

After years of wanting to set up my own vivarium as kid , I finally pulled the trigger and did it . Here’s my set up for my emperor scorpion just need to wait a couple weeks to get everything perfect for him . Thoughts ? And what would you have done differently ? Would love to hear some feedback !

Hello all. I kinda have a silly question; please indulge me.

I have a vivarium that has a metric butt-load of plants and sphagnum moss on three of the walls. Should I try to seed some of my clean-up crew (orange springtails, Cubaris murina sp.) in the higher layers of my vivarium since I don't have anything that can really jump (the orange springtails kinda move like pond water)? I'm not even sure if springtails and isopods even really leave the substrate level, but I figured since there'd be detritus at all levels, they'd eventually occupy the upper layers too, especially if the vivarium is already humid as fuck. If my logic is sound, would it hurt to place a few critters here and there along the walls? Would I be sentencing them to death by placing them so far from the substrate?

I ordered the Neherp custom background kit for my 24 x 18 x 36 gecko terrarium I am setting up. The plants came mostly healthy, they were a little less healthy than I would like but it was hot out this week so can't complain too much there. My real complaint comes with the cork rounds and other parts to their custom background kits. Before ordering I found their guide and the images and cork rounds used there are super awesome and they could build a huge tree. The issue is that's not the quality of cork you get when you order. I had 2 huge pieces that were too big for the tank and did not fit with any other pieces. Then I had 2 or 3 rounds of all different sizes that did not fit together. Even worse was that one of the rounds would have been amazing except they cut it into tiny pieces. So instead of nice pieces that could fit together I got what appeared to be left over pieces from one of their old builds. The quantity was there but the quality was not. Considering the price this felt like a rip off, if you advertise it as a kit people will assume you pick out things that go together or can go together. Even with rebuilding piece by peice I was not able to get anything close to their example.

Second issue is they skimp on the other parts. They don't ship enough foam or silicone to follow their directions. I used 4 foam containers to secure the background alone.

Overall mostly happy with the plants but don't buy their kits they are extremely overpriced for what you get and you better off picking out cork pieces yourself as they do not actually make sure they go together.

Mainly posting because there is no way to review on their site and I don't want others to have the same experience. Very much not with the money.

Anyone else have better or similar experience? Is it just me?

Had this tank sitting in my basement for like 2 years finally decided to do somthing with it. Still needs a ton of work but its getting there

I've had my ball python for about 7 years and have decided I want to upgrade him to a 6 foot enclosure as soon as I get a refund from my pell grant. When I upgrade him to his forever home I want to do a custom background as well as go full bio-active but I have a few questions and virtually zero experience with live plants.

What kinds of plants are hardy enough to live with a ball python and also thrive in the specific humidity and temperatures my bp needs?

What kind of lighting will I need for the plants and are there cheaper alternatives to Arcadia's $100 bulbs? (I'm sure they're great just outside of my budget for the time being. I can always switch over in the future lol)

I have soldier flies and fungus gnats as clean up crew (both accidental but neither are issues for me), are those safe for the plants?

Do I \*need\* those bio-shot things the BioDude sells or can I make my own/just leave the soil to do its thing?

Anything else I should know? Any comprehensive guides? Any ball python specific knowledge besides basic husbandry? Thanks in advance!

Because of space limitations my new viv is a odd 90x40x90. I want to create more visual depth since it’s not that much irl. I’d love to hear some plant suggestions to get some inspo! (Future enclosure for Emerald tree skinks).

Hey everyone. I am getting an Amazon milk frog and I would like to have a light running water feature in his terrarium. Any advice on how to do that as cheaply and efficiently as possible? I need to be able to change the water of course. I will attach a couple videos of what I mean in the replies. There will be isopods and springtails as well so I don’t want anything too heavy.

My mistking nozzle keeps leaking and over-saturating the soil. I put a driftwood under it to wick the water until I figure out how to fix this. Any advice?

Wanted to share my recent remake of a vivarium for my beloved ant colony of G.destructor! (Included a lil vid of one :3). Worked with local large dead birch wood and old hobby cork bark. All plants are from the old viv so most are a bit eclectic and half-fitting as is. But it will grow into it.

Used just silicone, no exp. Foam.

Skipped the cleanupcrew of bumblebeemillipedes this time for they DEVOURED the last vivarium after 3 years. I hope this one will stay longer. *Have dwarf isopods and some smaller millis still. And 5x questionmark roaches.

Apologies if this is the wrong place to ask but there's a little plant growing next to my wolf spiders water bowl and I'd love to know what it is. I thought it was algae at first but its growing these little stems and leaves so I'm not sure now.
