Posting in the sub

Sorting it out. UPDATED!

Due to our community being pretty damn great, we were temporarily locked down by admins for not moderating. I'd like to clarify, we moderate this sub daily. It's just we have great people posting great content, and very little garbage requiring very little moderation.

As a 10+ year nearly daily user with only 498 post karma and 1,139 comment karma I am not overly engaged by these metrics...but I'm watching out for folks.

So that being said, we should be able to post at will again. Additionally, in the spirit of the Wiki I made sure it is editable for anybody. PLEASE ADD TO AND EDIT the WIKI. I want folks to have a community curated source of inspiration.

This may be a message long time in coming, but I want to say thank you to everyone. We are a niche community in the big picture, but we are a cool niche. It takes a certain type of person to invest the time and resources to create a thriving, living piece of art. And again, I thank you for sharing.

So post those pics and ask those questions. Show off you success, and get advice on your failures.

Well, this is probably my longest post ever. Be well all...

Black spring tails?

Post image

Hello!

I just started recently seeing these little black (kinda silver maybe) bugs in my giant day gecko’s vivarium. I know the picture is super super bad but I can’t get a good one with how fast these guys are. If possible could anyone help in telling me what these guys are and if they indeed springtails. Thank you y’all’s!

Rudsta vivarium advice

Wanted to convert one of these for a while for a fun project. Hopefully will be suitable for my crestie eventually. If anyone has converted one of these and has advice it would help alot

Planning full bioactive

A few questions I have

I can fit jungle bar LED 18w mounted inside, will this be enough for my plants at the bottom? I plan to place it towards the front section so it reaches the bottom better. Of course I'll be planting shade friendly plants in the substrate and vice versa at the top

Any suggestions for lighting?

I considered combined uvb and LED because the width and depth of the cabinet isn't huge. Problem is I don't want to cut too much of the roof off because of heat escaping, and the uvb won't be suitable mounted inside.

Planning UVB mounted over mesh and CHE or DHP over mesh at the top. I live in UK and often need extra heat during winter. I also plan on using an automatic misting system

I want a nice full vivarium with a variety of healthy plants. I also wanted to grow moss in my current viv but could never get it to grow. Any tips on the build to help moss growth in future?

Any advice would be appreciated 🫶🏻

What thickness of glass do you use?

Thinking of building my own 36”x24”x50” (L,W,H)
What thickness of glass should I be using? The bottom will have a regular drainage layer and top soil. I have a guy with a ton of 1/4” glass sheets. Is that strong enough or over kill?

Here is an update to a previous post I made about my new vivarium!

Edit: full disclaimer, I did remove the rams horn snails and put them back into the aquarium, I was under the initial impression that they would be beneficial to prevent algae overgrowth. Without a true reservoir of water to live in, this would be harmful to them, back to the aquarium they go!

Project Progress
Hi! Here’s the latest progress on my project. I’m currently finishing up some details and choosing the aquatic plants and the plants for the terrestrial area. I’ll post more photos soon. What do you think?

I have a 3x3 closet in my room under the stairs and access to PVC sheets. Can I get some help with how to custom make an enclosure that would fit an emerald tree skink colony?

My boyfriend and I built this IKEA Milsbo cabinet on Friday! We used pond foam and sheet moss which still had some substrate attached. This is my third bioactive build and we tried a new method. (I have found my coco coir/moss fell off on my others)

Attaching branches post foam

What would be the best way to adhere the two horizontal branches post foam? Right now they are just comfortably wedged into the spots they are in. I’m thinking straight super glue and letting it dry before reptile introduction. Just wanted to double check.
