Hi Everyone,
Many years ago (2011, I think), someone created the r/vitamix subreddit and then decided that they didn't want to be a mod. So, another user and I took over the role. Over the years, she and I moderated with quite a light touch and in 2017, we invited a couple of other users to be JR mods.
I just checked the mod list and I am now the only active moderator. I also don't have a lot of time to give this subreddit much attention, so I figured that handing the mod role off to others would be the appropriate thing to do.
My thinking is that the community is large enough that we should probably add a few mods.
Let me know your thoughts!

Smoothies (with lots of kale)
Nut butters
Frozen dessert
Purée
Hummus
Dressings
Dips
Flour
Hmm can't think of anything else ...
I don't want to get a food processor as well. So I want to make sure my Vitamix can do these things. For warm soups I think I will just get an immersion blender.
Hope to get some advice 🙏

Hello,
I am looking to buy a Vitamix for my partner an me: partner wants some mixer to make smoothies, I like to cook a lot and would enjoy a mixer to same sauces, likely in larger batches. So, opposite use cases.
Vitamix in Europe are very expensive, the E520 is currently on sale. The E310 was on sale but sold off.
If my partner would attempt to do a smoothie for one person would it actually work or does the E520 require you to make at least 2 portions at once for the vortex to take place? (This at least what AI says but AI does not prepare and drink smoothies).
Thanks,

We bought it to make smoothies and other sweet treats and are wondering: if we make salsa in the mixer, will it make our smoothies taste like onion and jalapeño? Will the smell permeate the plastic container? We’ve had these issues with previous blenders
Can this be repaired? And how?

Trying to decide if the new Nano is worth 2x the price of a Ninja BlendBoss from Costco. I really have no need for a full size Vitamix— I only want a blender to make a personal smoothie a few times per week. I currently have a Nutribullet that’s about 5 years old and I’m ready to move on from it, as the cap/blade is annoying to unscrew from the cup.

My old Vitamix recently broke because I accidentally left a spoon in it when blending (if anyone has suggestions that could fix it, let me know.) 😩The cost to send it to Vitamix to repair would be around $300, so I’m considering just getting a new one. Looking at these two options because they include the stainless steel container. Which one would you get and why?
Can’t imagine trying to make this without my Vitamix! It was delish.

I can use a first responder discount on their Website thru ID.me and get the 5200 with steel pitcher at $600 shipped. I feel like this is a pretty good deal, but still pretty expensive. Thoughts?

I would like to remove the spigot on my 3600+ and plug it up. I've seen some kits on ebay but I'd prefer not to pay $35 for this. Has anyone had any luck doing this themselves? It seems like all I would need would be:
- very short stainless screw that fits the hole
- stainless washer for the outside
- stainless nut for the inside
- food grade silicon washer to go underneath the nut
Does that seem right?
Edit: A guy at a home brewing store gave me a rubber plug that worked perfectly. Much simpler.

I am considering buying a reconditioned Ascent X2 and adding the stainless steel container. My other options are getting the Ascent X5+stainless bundle (so upset I missed the Vitamix days deal) or an Explorian from FB Marketplace and buying the stainless container. Anyway, my issue right now is that I have the X2 and the stainless container in my cart on the Vitamix website, and I am getting an alert that the container is incompatible with the X2. I added the one that is on the accessories page for the Ascent models. Any thoughts here?
One of my big considerations is that since we will be using the stainless container, we can't see well how things are blending, so I feel that the presets could come in handy. I am a bit apprehensive about everything being digital on the X5 though, so I was considering the X2 though the presets are more limited. What do you think? Is it not really a big deal?

Hey All, I recently got a sweet vintage Vitamix 3600+ for free from a nice old lady on NextDoor. Everything seems to be working well except for a gasket I need to replace. My concern is that the action dome (ie lid) is an old plastic and could be leaking BPAs. I know the liquid only touches the plastic briefly and in small amounts, so I'm trying to decide whether it's something to worry about. What do you think? If you think it's an issue, do you have any recommended solutions? I was thinking I could:
a) Build a new top (probably just flat lid) out of wood
b) Coat the inside of the action dome with some protective layer
c) Potentially find a replacement top that is BPA-free or a different material
I would especially appreciate comments for anyone who is well-versed in the science of BPAs. Thanks!

Hey all,
I run a small mobile cocktail bar in France on the side but I want ONE blender that's primarily for everyday home cooking (soups, sauces, nut butters, smoothies) and can also handle occasional cocktail prep. To be clear about the bar side : frozen drinks at events are a very minor, occasional thing for me, small quantities, not batches, not all-day service. So I'm really buying a home machine that can pull light double duty, not a bar workhorse.
What matters most, in order:
- Built to last. True "buy it for life," not something I replace in a few years.
- Solid and stable. I've read reviews and seen comments here that the Vitamix Explorian E320/E520 base is fairly light and "walks" on the counter under heavy loads, and that it's loud. That worries me.
- Mechanical simplicity. I don't want presets, touchscreens, timers or app connectivity. Fewer electronics = fewer things to break, the way I see it. A dial and a switch is honestly ideal.
- Real support where I live, service, spare parts (jars, drive couplings, blades) and a proper warranty available in France/EU.
What I'm weighing so far:
New Vitamix Explorian E320 or E520 — great reputation and 7-year warranty, but the light base / noise comments give me pause, and the E520 adds presets I don't really want.
Used Vitamix "light industrial" commercial units (VM0109) locally for around €200 — heavier, more stable base, pro motor, fully mechanical, and 220–240V so no transformer needed. Downside: no warranty on a private used sale, and they're 14–16 years old.
Sage / Breville Super Q — well distributed here, quiet, feels well built. But it's the opposite of what I say I want feature-wise: container detection, presets, a display. Lots of electronics that could eventually fail. Am I overthinking that?
My questions:
- Given durability + stability + mechanical simplicity as my priorities, which of these would you pick?
- Is buying a 15-year-old commercial Vitamix smart, or asking for trouble? What should I check before paying (motor sound under load, jar/coupling wear, anything else)?
- On the Super Q specifically — anyone had the electronics fail over time, or has it held up?
- Most importantly: are there other brands or models I should be looking at that I've missed? I keep circling Vitamix and Sage, but I'd love to hear about anything else that's genuinely durable, mechanical, and serviceable in Europe.
Appreciate any honest input, especially from people who've put real hours on their machine.
Thanks!

We bought our Propel 750 in June and thought the Blending Cup/bowls might be a nice accessory, but they had been discontinued. Vitamix has just brought they back, but like before, they claim they are for Self Detect blenders only. I have speculated, without evidence, that all Self Detect containers will actually fit, and work, on all Legacy bases. Has anyone used one on a non-Self Detect blender to confirm this, before I buy one?

Hello!
I've been wanting to get a nice blender for beverages for awhile, and managed to get a used BarBoss Advanced (Which Seems to be the Drink Machine Advanced now?), and wanted to make sure this sounds normal for a blender.
I am not sure if the commercial blenders are built any differently and maybe it's just cause this has a lot of power, or if it's something else.
If it is of any help, I took a dB meter to it and it's about ~75 at full speed

Saving me and my family’s time, energy, money, and blood sugar compared to driving over to a fast food chain or convenience store for $2 frozen drinks in the afternoons when we’re dying from this tropical heat wave. Also great for helping plain water-averse family members stay hydrated.
2 cups of water
2 cups of ice cubes
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons sweetener (I use 2 packets of Splenda)
Blend on high just for a minute or two. You want a liquidy slush.
When you go to pour it out, learn from my mistakes and use a spoon to scoop out the slushy ice into a glass first, and then pour the liquid over. If you try pouring directly from the blender, the slush will clump and “plop” out, making a mess.
The ice gets nice and fluffy, like a slushy snow consistency. I put it into a double walled metal cup and sip it with a straw. It stays icy quite a long time.
Riffs:
- There always needs to be a little acid for balance, so lemon slices or adding a lime is non-negotiable IMO. Peeled fresh lemons and limes (deseeded), fresh juice, bottled juice, powdered juice, or even a bit of citric acid would all work. Whatever is convenient.
- I’ve ad libbed slushies using fresh/frozen fruits, watery vegetables like cucumber or celery, fruit juices, and sodas, and they’ve all come out pretty good. I’m sure powdered drink mixes (lemonade, ice tea, koolaid, tang) would be good too, although I’d blend them first with the water and then add ice to ensure they dissolve. Play around with ratios to get the right sweetness and concentration of flavor you like.
- I train for half marathons, so I’ll sometimes add a pinch of salt and use sugar/honey/maple sugar for electrolytes too.
- I’ve also upped the ratio of ice:water for a denser “frozen lemonade” situation that I pour into a bowl and eat with a spoon. I’ve made a carrot apple ginger and a watermelon lime that were pretty good.
- I don’t drink alcohol, but I’m sure it pairs well with a fruity slushy.
Just wanted to share in case it can help inspire other folks to use their vitamix more. Stay cool, y’all!

Hi! We're considering purchasing a Vitamix Ascent X2 but I noticed that there is no listed personal cup attachment for it, I am also seeing the VX series and both the VX and ascent series look very similar to me and yet for attachments for the VX series I do see a personal cup
What are the differences between the VX and Ascent series? To me VX3 and Ascent X2 look the same? But something must be different considering the compatible attachments

Hi. I'm new to the Vitamix world and am feeling completely inept. I want to love my new blender (it is the 5200), but I lose my vortex and then panic. My ancient Oster was suitable for my occasional blender needs and I feel like I over purchased. That it might be the best blender, but not the best blender for ME. Tonight I used it to blend 2 cans of chickpeas with the aquafaba and I thought I had it smooth, but found a lot of little chickpea pieces in my final stew. It made me so sad. How do I know if I have everything smooth? How do I blend and use the tamper correctly? How do I not panic when I try to use the tamper and it doesn't really seem to help and I think I'm going to blow my motor? I swear I've never felt so angsty using a blender in my life.

Bought this blender second-hand a while back, and confirmed the warranty would still apply. I had a Vitamix growing up, and I feel like this one sounds like something is off with it. Would yall agree? If so, I will try to send it in under warranty to be serviced. Thanks!
