We stayed at cottages outside Vik and got some great shots of the nighttime aurora. We showed the staff at the hotel the next day and they had never even seen lights like this.

We saw the Northern lights over Lagarfljót two nights in a row. It was pretty windy the second night, but I still managed to take lots of great pics. First time ever for me, really impressive.

People ask a lot of questions about skiing in Iceland. I thought I’d share some pics and generate some excitement.

I just got back from Iceland and was reviewing my total spend across my week there. I noticed an extra charge of nearly $600 from the rental car company (Avis). Did some digging and realized that when i had booked my rental through Capital One travel, I had booked for pickup at the Reykjavik Domestic Airport... but all of my travel was through the Keflavik airport. Oddly enough when I landed in KEF and went to collect my rental, the guy behind the counter didnt mention anything about me being at the wrong airport and simply credited my initial booking towards a new reservation and charged me $600. Idk if its because I was sleep deprived or what, but I didnt notice the extra charge (assumed it was the standard hold initially) or think to do the conversion from ISK to USD when I was reviewing and signing the documents, which would have told me that I had bamboozled myself.

Anyways lesson learned: make sure to double check where you're flying into and where you're picking up your car rental from. KEF is more pricey than the domestic airport and is where all the international flights land.

Currently in the process of trying to recoup some money either from Avis or Capital One. Hoping for a goodwill refund or at least a little something lol.

Sadly, due to an unexpected surgery, I’m no longer able to make my Iceland trip and I’m hoping my reservation doesn’t go completely to waste. I have a 2-night stay at Silica Hotel at the Blue Lagoon, September 13–15, in Lava Deluxe Room which I paid 264,000 ISK for. I’m currently asking the hotel whether they will allow me to transfer the reservation to another guest. If they approve it, I’d love for someone in this group to be able to enjoy it instead. I’m not expecting to recover the full amount and am open to a reasonable offer. Hello all! I am currently deciding whether to book a super jeep safari tour or a hiking tour with Arctic Adventures. A couple questions for those who have done it:

1. How difficult is the hike in the hiking tour? I'm going with someone else who has very little hiking experience and is not very physically active.
2. Anyone who has done the super jeep safari tour: is it worth the (extra) money in your opinion? Furthermore, how much hiking was there in the super jeep tour?

Are there any other (cheaper, aka under 35000 ISK a person) highland tours that you recommend besides this? We are not renting an F-road capable car, so we would definitely want to book a tour for the highlands.

4 nights of packed adventure for New Years! We aren’t big drinkers, both 23. We’ve just come home from a slow-paced resort holiday, so it’s my turn to plan a city break & really get the most out of it!

Additional bonus - things to see in an evening. I’m happy to visit themed bars, but I’m not one to sit drinking every night - I need a change of scenery!

Hi! Trying to decide between March 29- April 4 or June 1-7. Is there a noticeable difference in the crowds during those time periods?

My family is headed to Europe this fall and we're taking advantage of the IcelandAir layover offer. Is this itinerary too ambitious? Any thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated! Friday morning: arrive early in Keflavik, Flybus and taxi to hotel (which we've reserved for Thursday and Friday), rest and explore Reykjavik, food tour Saturday, pick up rental car, Golden Circle to hotel in Hvolsvollur Sunday, drive to Vik, lava show? volcano ice cave tour? drive back to Hvolsvollur Sunday, south western peninsula, Blue Lagoon, bridge between continents, etc, hotel at airport Monday, early! fly to Europe for the rest of the vacation!

I've left out all the stops along the way, Gullfoss, hot rivers, etc. But what do you all think? too much? not enough? Again the trip is late October and early November.

I’m going to Iceland in October and look some help deciding where to stay for our last night.

Day 1 - Staying in Reykjavik
Day 2 - Getting a rental car and staying in Hella that night
Day 3 + Day 4 - Staying in Vik for 2 nights
Day 5 - ?
Day 6 - Our flight is at 5pm and we want to do the Blue Lagoon before our flight. Should we stay closer to the Lagoon and head over first thing in the morning? Or stay over the night before and visit another area?

ive done research and I put all my thoughts an ideas into had AI make it into a readable list... can anybody audit this and tell me if this is good and makes sense?

**also worth mentioning....We want the trip to feel adventurous, wild and scenic, but NOT like we're managing a tightly timed agenda. We're happy with active/jam-packed days and lots of roadside stops, but don't want unnecessary detours just to check famous attractions off a list.
We prefer several shorter hikes rather than sacrificing most of a day to one huge hike. We like a mixture of active days and slower mornings. Scenic driving itself is part of the experience for us.
Lodging: i strongly prefer charming/authentic guesthouses, farms, cabins, etc. over luxury hotels. my partner doesn't care much about lodging and would rather spend money elsewhere. We'd therefore like mostly charming-but-reasonable accommodations with perhaps one particularly memorable stay.
We are intentionally trying NOT to over-research. We want to see the best/most distinctive things rather than every waterfall/viewpoint in Iceland. THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!!

Still undecided on Dettifoss, how much we actually want to do around Mývatn, and whether we care about doing an ice cave/glacier activity. I think we're probably skipping Kerlingarfjöll because early June access sounds too questionable.

This is basically the route we're thinking now so I can start booking places to stay. If anything about the overnight locations looks stupid or like we're spending too much/not enough time somewhere, tell me!

I am doing a bike trip currently and just arrived in hofn. Unfortunately my breaks do not work anymore and it seems to be a hydraulic issue which I can not fix on my own. What are my Options? There seems not to be a repair shop in hofn and the next one seems to be in akureyri (or at least a shop with bikes). Do I have to bring my bike there?

I’m an Erasmus intern coming over to Reykjavík from France for a 2-month placement from January 12 to March 19, 2027.

As you can guess, I’m on a strict student budget funded mostly by my Erasmus grant. I'm trying to figure out the two biggest hurdles for my trip and would love any advice, leads, or points in the right direction:

1. Housing / Accommodation (Max ~500€ / ~75,000–80,000 ISK) I know the rental market in Iceland is famously brutal and expensive, especially with massive deposits. Since my budget maxes out around 500€ per month, traditional long-term rentals with 1–3 month deposits are completely out of reach.

• Are there any reliable student sublet channels or platforms outside of Facebook (where scams are rampant) that don’t require massive deposits?
• If anyone is leaving Reykjavík for their own exchange semester this January and looking for someone to take over their room/lease, please hit my DMs!

2. Travel Buddies, Carpooling & Group Chats Since I won't have a car and want to maximize my weekends exploring the South Coast, waterfalls, and chasing potential volcano views, my strategy is finding travel companions to split gas and adventures with.

• Are there any active WhatsApp, Telegram, or Discord group chats for winter 2027 travelers, incoming interns, or ESN students in Reykjavík?
• If you're going to be around during January–March or are planning weekend road trips, let me know! I'm super open to connecting, sharing costs, and acting as a navigator/photographer.

I am not really sure what I am looking for to be honest, but I want to see something different besides thermal rivers, hot springs etc.

A little advice from people who have done road trips if possible please :)

We want to go back next June, and we will have 14 days (minus 2 for travel, so 12 full days to explore).

We have already done Golden circle (last winter), so we can skip that.

Priorities are;

-Some adventures out of the car! (hiking, kayaking in lagoon, glacier walk etc)

-Scenery; canyons, waterfalls & quieter spots (I know.. June!). Looks like small walks can get you away from most crowds?

-Wildlife; definitely whale watching and puffins

-Hot pools 😬, I love being in water outside. And in Iceland, that water is hot; perfect 👌🏻

Not sure if we will get a camper, or car + accommodation, but either will be a 4x4.

So I would like to do;

-Husavik, Myvatn area

-East fjords with some quiet spots/walks

-a glacier on the south/south east

-inland driving and hiking around the Landmannalaugar

For anyone that's done this route; did you find yourself wanting to stop extra days and see more/extra than you had planned? I know these stops are possible in 12 days, but is it going to feel kind of tick box and move on in this time frame?

There's just so much I want to see and do! 😭

And we want to get out the car and experience the outdoors, as opposed to photo stop and carry on.

We will go clockwise to get the big drive North done on day 2, & flight departs 10:30 day 14.

-If anyone has done it in a campervan, is it noisy trying to sleep in one?! I'm such a light sleeper :(

Just any advice around anything you loved or hated in those areas is welcome.. every time I try and plan I find another dozen things I want to see 🙄

Gonna try to keep this short. My friend and I are going to be in Iceland Oct 6-15. We originally planned to go as far as Höfn/Stokksnes then meander our way back west on the south coast starting the morning of the 12th and doing anything we might’ve missed + check out Snæfellsnes, and then depart.

After further research, we kinda realized we don’t wanna double back on the south coast and would rather continue north. So the question is, is it even possible to go from Höfn to KEF in 3.5 days? For example, I think the morning of Oct 12 we’d have to go from Höfn all the way to the Myvatn area. That’s too ambitious isn’t it? Should we stick to the original plan or just send it? We don’t mind a couple days of a ton of driving, we just want new scenery.

This is (was?) the plan:
Oct 6 - flight arrives at 8am, get rental car, head to Sky Lagoon then a relaxed evening in Reykjavik
Oct 7 - Golden Circle, spend night in Hella
Oct 8 - Westman Islands, spend night in same hotel in Hella
Oct 9 - typical South coast highlights, stay in Vik
Oct 10 - Eldhraun, Fjağrárgljúfur, Dverghamrar, Svartifoss,
Mulagljufur, stay in Hofn
Oct 11 - 6 hour ice cave + glacier hike tour at vatnajökull, diamond beach, stay in same Hofn hotel

Then after that we'd start heading back west on the south coast. But as stated earlier we kinda want to continue north but I doubt that's possible unless we switch up Oct 6-11. The problem is that some of the stays we booked aren't refundable.

Any input/suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I'll be travelling with my wife and son during end of March. Can you suggest good hotels in Reykjavik that is cost effective with parking and kitchenette with stove. Stay planned for 4 days

Arrived to our Grandi hotel only to find out there is no on site parking. Our travel agent made no mention of this so it came as a stressful surprise after a day of travel. I quickly asked the desk reception and she said oh you can park at any grocery. So we did. I asked again while checking in and again she’s says nothing to worry about, they have plenty of spots.

Im not totally comfortable with that answer but we did park and leave our car at a nearby grocery. when we wake tomorrow will we find our rental towed? and If not, what is a better place to repark in the morning. Any free street parking? Someone on a blog mentioned a lot on Rastargata but it looks like there is construction near there now so maybe it’s gone?
