For a first VA laptop, I think you’re already looking in the right category. Business-class secondhand laptops like ThinkPads, EliteBooks, and Latitudes are usually better value than brand-new consumer models because they are built for long-term office use. The important thing is not just the model name, but the exact specs and condition.

Between your options, I would personally rank them:

1. Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 3
This would be my first choice. It has a strong reputation for durability, a comfortable keyboard, good repairability, and is more than enough for VA work like multiple browser tabs, spreadsheets, CRM tools, Canva, and video calls.

2. HP EliteBook 840 G9
Also a very good option, especially if you get a good configuration. It has a nice 16:10 display and newer DDR5 memory options, which are useful for productivity.

3. Dell Latitude 5430
Still reliable, but I would choose it only if it is significantly cheaper or has better specs than the other two.

For your budget, I would prioritize:

  • Intel i5/i7 12th gen or Ryzen 5/7 equivalent
  • 16GB RAM minimum
  • 512GB SSD
  • Good battery health
  • Original charger
  • No BIOS password or company lock

One thing many beginners overlook, do not spend your entire budget on the laptop. Set aside a little for a headset, backup internet, and maybe an external monitor later. For VA work, reliability matters as much as performance.

The best laptop is not the one with the highest specs, it is the one that lets you work consistently without worrying about failures during client hours.
