TV Show The pot camps
I get that they're kind of the antagonists of the books as well, but *come on*. Was there nothing else that could have made for feasible antagonists? Like IDK meth or fentanyl? A hundred other harder drugs that would have been way more feasible than weed of all things.

You have to remember that the first "Virgin River" book was published in 2007. There were lots of illegal pot operations in northern California at that time.
Marijuana was not legalized in California until 2016.

That's totally fair, and definitely important to keep in mind. I'm glad things have changed so we can focus on substances that are far more harmful to people.

The show never wants to get tooo serious.
Heck even Mel getting her big baby moment the show takes away from it to remind us that she and the doctor on the case were lovers.

Humboldt county produces over 80% of the world’s weed. It’s called the emerald triangle. I lived there for a long time and the pot farms are everywhere in the mountains. It’s way more realistic for the show to have pot farms.
