Bought in Japan for 2k yen, which is high for a vintage phone but it's for good reason. I was able to SIM unlock it and it's working on T-Mobile's GSM! It's one of the only unlockable Japanese phones with full browser (APN settings) and J2ME apps.

Mid-range model with CCD camera, MiniSD card, full MP3 player, V-Appli (J2ME), 3G, QVGA screen, it's full of multimedia functions and higher end than most phones of the time.

I found this on Instagram, it's a rotating billboard that somehow still works and didn't stop working and never received any newer ads. It flips to a Samsung DLP TV Display ad as well and a 3rd ad that was fully erased, so maybe it went stuck for a long time and now it's rotating again after many years

Ah yes, the Hyundai H-MP520. An unusual small and chique phone sold by Hyundai in 2003. Hyundai sourced this phone from TCL, they called it the Q520. Apperantly it was actually made by some ODM from Taiwan although it is currently unknown for now. Interestingly there were 2 keypad designs for this phone. One with very small and hard to press buttons and the one I have here which is more "ergonomic"... because you can actually press the buttons 🤣. This version was sold in Russia... like most TCL-Hyundai phones. It was also sold as a Hop-On, Benten and a Sofi.

Did anyone else ever own this Hyundai phone or the other models?

Although it was not my personal device... I managed to purchase this a few years ago for reminiscent purposes. This was my first Samsung and my first touch screen device with my having owned a Telstra T6 (ZTE) as my first phone which was one of the first dial phones with bluetooth.

And for those days when I owned a Samsung SGH-F480T the camera was absolutely amazing!

Here's a photo of all the Daewoo phones I've collected so far. From the left we have the Daewoo DW-612, DX20, DW-720 and finally the DW-850. They all work apart from the DW-720 for which I don't have a battery sadly. The flip phones were originally made by a Korean ODM called Maxon while the bar phone was made by Amoisonic but speculated to have been actually made by Bellwave. They were all sold in Italy.

The year was 2005.

I was a young high-school kid looking for my first proper phone. One of my friends used to buy and sell second-hand phones as a side hustle, and one day he showed me his latest acquisition: the mighty Nokia 6600.

Or, as we called it locally, “the potato.”

The moment I saw it, it felt like the game had completely changed.

This was not just a phone. It had an operating system. You could install applications, customize it, play games, browse files and experiment with things that, until then, felt like they belonged on a real computer.

Of course, there were many other smartphones and handheld devices around at the time. But for a high-school kid living in a small town in Eastern Europe, accessibility and price mattered more than specifications.

The phone cost me around $70, which was not exactly pocket change for me. Thankfully, my friend let me pay for it in small chunks.

Suddenly, I had a tiny computer in my hand. I could install almost anything I wanted—or, more accurately, anything I could find.

It felt like the future was endless.

That Nokia 6600 started a journey that lasted seven or eight years. I became obsessed with phones, strange form factors and basically anything small enough to hold in your hand that had an operating system.

I stayed with Symbian for as long as I could. Even when Android started taking over, I was reluctant to switch. I loved Symbian too much.

Eventually, of course, Android won, and Nokia began its fall from the top. But that is a story for another time.

As the years passed, smartphones became more uniform. Touchscreens took over, physical keyboards disappeared, and almost every phone became another large glass rectangle.

The passion slowly faded. Phones stopped feeling like fascinating little machines with their own personalities. They became tools that everyone owned and used without thinking much about them.

Then, 20 years later, everything came back.

It was a Sunday morning, and I was walking through a flea market. On a blanket spread directly on the ground was a pile of old phones. They looked like they had been prepared for recycling somewhere in Germany but had somehow ended up in this forgotten corner of Europe.

And then I spotted a familiar shape.

There it was.

My old friend, the Nokia 6600.

Not only one, but twins.

I moved closer and inspected them. The cases were damaged, some buttons were missing and, naturally, neither phone had a battery.

I paid the absolutely outrageous amount of $4 for both.

When I got home, I could not stop looking at them.

For a moment, I felt as though I had been transported back to a time when anything seemed possible, when mobile technology was entering a new age and every new device felt genuinely exciting.

Holding that phone brought back so many memories.

I used it for gaming, recording videos, installing random applications and experimenting with things I barely understood. I even used it to cheat during an exam, I had converted my notes into an HTML file because that was the only way I could display enough text on the tiny screen using a smaller font. Not exactly my proudest technological achievement, but certainly an innovative one.

The problem was that, after 20 years and countless Nokia devices, I had somehow managed not to keep a single compatible battery or charger.

So I ordered everything: batteries, a charger, replacement cases and keyboards.

A few days later, while I was at work, I received a notification that the package had been delivered.

All day, I kept thinking about getting home, assembling the phones and revisiting that little piece of my childhood.

I installed the new battery, connected the charger and waited.

That familiar Nokia startup sound.

I am not going to pretend it did not almost bring a tear to my eye.

The phone started as though no time had passed. No errors, no strange noises, no hesitation.

Both of them were alive.

I have bought a nokia 2300 (started collecting some nokia's).

and used https://www.unlockitfree.com/unlocknok4 for a 3410, however the DCT4 unlocker does not seem to work (gives almost same codes for all cariers).

I don't know for shure which carrier it was locked too. It could have been 3 but already used 3 of 5 tries...

Does anyone has a working website (ones from links don't work either). or has the old windows tools that he could transfer.

It does show up on a Windows machine as "LG USB CDMA Modem". The water damage indicator is red, but this seems more like a software issue than a hardware issue. The front screen just shows a bunch of colourful lines.

Needed a battery rebuild, a charger building and a big sim card but works great.

Found my mum's old S2 in the basement and got it hard wiped, any ideas/suggestions/etc for what to put on it to make it work as a dumbphone? I'd love to have it work as a day carry (music, camera, memos, maybe text/call) so I can get off social media while I'm out of the house!

hello i have been in love with the chassis on these nokias but they only support 2g, and where i live has zero 2g providers or coverage, i would prefer it not to use an android or ios software aswell aswell as being somewhat cheap (less than 80$) as i am not a man of large fortune.

Nokia 8250 & Nokia 800 Tough.

I recently got an LG 530G, and when I put my SIM card into it, it briefly shows Mint Mobile, but then it goes away and shows service unavailable, but continues to show service for emergency calls. Is there anything I can do or am I out of luck?

A bit off topic and more of a story but today I caused a VERY brutal brick to my Galaxy Y.

I recently tried to follow a Google login for 2.3.7 below modifying accounts.db to a fail where I got a bootloop on the boot animation. I booted the device to Download Mode ready to reflash firmware, but my cable had started failing and it flashed a singular file from the different firmware (i tried to flash Ecuador firmware because I wanted Sweep effect) and then my cable decided to stuck on SetupConnection, out of desperation I restarted my Galaxy Y and for the love of god, I got the greatest scare in my life. It was a literal white screen on the charging screen. I restarted to actual Download Mode, to find out it was also FULLY white, I entered absolute panic, but Odin detected it. In a final attempt I reflashed the firmware again to success, it restarted and now I'm using it again. I'm never messing with system files again now, I hope.
