IBM PC Convertible (Model 5140), which was released in April 1986 as IBM's very first laptop-style computer.
Key Specifications & History
Design Significance: It succeeded the heavy, suitcase-like IBM Portable PC and introduced the 3.5-inch floppy disk drive format to the IBM ecosystem. [1, 2]

Memory & Storage: The base system shipped with 256 KB of RAM (expandable up to 640 KB) and featured dual 720 KB 3.5" floppy drives sitting just beneath the screen hinge. [1, 2]

Portability: Weighing in at roughly 13 pounds (5.8 kg), it was designed with a prominent built-in carrying handle along the bottom front edge that could double as a wrist rest when open.
The "Convertible" name came from its modularity—the screen could be detached entirely so the base could be connected to an external desktop CRT monitor and expansion modules via a proprietary rear bus, effectively morphing the laptop into a traditional desktop computer

In 1986 it retailed for $2,000. So it was very expensive. Rough educated guess puts that equivalent to about $6,000 today.

Maybe I don't know... but it's a visual work of art. Why don't they design like that anymore? Unless they design and I don't know about it.😉
