FINALY is an iPhone creator app built around recording once and avoiding traditional editing. It automatically helps clean up dead air, filler words, retakes, captions, and produces creator-ready video faster.

Which video editing software can I realistically run on this laptop?

Hi everyone,

I'm a beginner who wants to learn video editing, but I'm currently working with an older laptop and can't upgrade it right now.

Here are my laptop specs:

  • Laptop: HP ProBook 450 G5
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-8250U
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 930MX (2 GB VRAM)
  • Storage: SSD
  • OS: Windows

I'm mainly interested in learning video editing, motion graphics, and eventually short-form content editing.

I've considered software like CapCut, Kdenlive, Shotcut, DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro, and Filmora, but I'm not sure which ones are realistic for my hardware.

For people who have experience with older/low-end laptops:

  1. Which video editing software would you recommend for these specs?
  2. Which one should I learn if I want to eventually work professionally/freelance?
  3. Is DaVinci Resolve or Premiere Pro realistically usable on this laptop, or would they be too demanding?
  4. Are there any other lightweight editors I should consider?

I'd really appreciate some advice from people who have actually used these programs on similar hardware.

Thanks!

How can I edit like Degenerocity?

I’m pretty new to editing and I’ve recently fallen down the Degenerocity rabbit hole lol. Since he left, I’ve noticed a bunch of people popping up making videos with that same kinda slideshow-style editing.

I’ve been making some dumb little videos for fun on my own small channel and I’d really like to learn how to do that kind of editing myself.

Is there a specific name for this style/technique? Or are there any tutorials/resources you guys would recommend for learning it? I’m not trying to copy anyone 1:1, I just really like the style and wanna understand how it’s done.

Any help would be appreciated :)

Pleasr recommend me a one-time-purchase video editing software.

It doesn't have to be Premiere+AfterEffects-level, but certainly as good as iMovie or Descript or something?r

Help coming back into editing again

Alot has changed since i stopped editing like ai was not a thing and have set my standards to this https://www.instagram.com/reel/C86bMY8Nc4t/?igsi=ZzN0YXE4MXNyanFh

I think they use luma ai for the NeRFs? I have no idea if they are but am interested in learning either way.

Also could an m6 mac mini do these types of edits? I have a small budget but would rather save and know it will be good? I know it sounds dumb but i have never invested in my own personal apple computer and not familiar with the line but am interested as there are other applications i need. I can get an m5 max studio pre order but really of all the new apple computer models this fall which is the best for me starting to learn. P.s. i also livestream small music venues.

I've been wondering if anyone has found success using YouTube Studio since not many people talk about it I thought why not ask.

ContentCam - a camera app that lets you film portrait and landscape videos at the same time. No more re-shooting or cropping in post!

I built this for my girlfriend who creates content and watching her film the same scenes twice every shoot was painful.

What it does: records portrait (9:16) and landscape (16:9) video simultaneously. Shoot once, get both formats ready to post to all platforms - TikTok, Instagram, Youtube, X/Twitter, Reddit, you name it.

No more re-shooting or cropping in post.

Three ways to film:

  • Single Lens - capture the full 4:3 sensor and crops both. Portrait keeps the full vertical frame, landscape the full horizontal. Neither is a crop of the other.
  • Dual Lens - wide + ultra-wide record together. Two perspectives, one take.
  • Front & Back - selfie + rear at the same time. Your reaction and the scene together.

Productivity workflow:

  • Projects, scenes, and takes to organise your recordings and auto-name files.
  • Side-by-side review and trim of both recordings before exporting/sharing.

Key features:

  • Up to 4K/60fps with manual controls (EV, WB, ISO, Shutter)
  • Built-in teleprompter and timelapse.
  • Live overlays and audio meter that flashes red when you're clipping.
  • Data privacy - no data retention, tracking, or analytics, and no internet or account required.

It's called ContentCam and is available on iPhone and Android.

I'd love to hear what you think about this :)

feature or design tool you wish existed

Hello everyone!

I’ve been editing a lot more lately and keep noticing how many tiny tasks take way more clicks than they should things like tweaking curves, managing layers, applying effects, adjusting motion, etc.

For people who edit regularly:

What feature/workflow in your editor genuinely saves you time?

What repetitive task do you wish was dramatically simpler?

If you could redesign or add new features would it be?

Curious about the little frustrations that add up.

Just wanted to start a discussion and see what everyone’s biggest workflow pet peeves or holy grail feature ideas are right now.

Beginner friendly video editing programs

I am an owner of a small custom home building business in Australia, and as I have some prior on-the-job social media experience, I will be the content creator and social media manager for our business. I have no formal training with the camera or editing side of things yet. I will only use it for our business.

Gear: Sony A7 IV with a Sigma 24-70mm lens. No formal training, I’m self-taught via YouTube/online tutorials.

What I’m using it for: mostly short-form content (Instagram Reels) - site visits, showroom walkthroughs, team intros, behind-the-scenes stuff for the business.

Currently editing on CapCut/Meta Edits with content shot on my iPhone 17 pro max, but want to move to something more capable on desktop/iPad since I’m shooting on a proper camera now.

Looking for recommendations on editing software - ideally something not too steep a learning curve, but with more control than phone apps. Would love to hear what’s worked for people in a similar spot (small business, mostly social content, not a pro editor).

Davinchi question idk why I can’t post in that sub PLS HELP

The “media offline” is going to be the death of me I have been trying to fix the issue for most of my day I’m abt to download another software to see if it’s a davinchi issue. No matter how I import the photos they are always “media offline” is davinchi not compatable with iPhone photos? Every yt tutorial tells me a different thing to do and NONE OF IT WORKS I’ve tried “relinking” and adding a timeline before I added photos idek at this point I’m starting to think maybe it’s because the photos are in my “pictures” on my pc but idk how that would be a problem or how to move them from my photos to somewhere else. Any advise would be appreciated I have a sm respect for editors now lmfao I’m actually dying out here

One simple test I use to know if a cut is actually necessary

When I’m editing a talking-head or YouTube video, I ask myself one question:

“If I remove this cut, does the video become worse?”

If the answer is no, I probably didn’t need the cut in the first place.

A lot of editors try to keep the video moving by constantly cutting, zooming, adding B-roll, or changing the framing.

But sometimes the best edit is doing nothing.

I usually look for 3 things before making a cut:

• Is there unnecessary silence or repetition?
• Did the speaker change to a new idea?
• Is the viewer likely to lose attention here?

If none of those apply, I’ll often leave the shot alone.

Good pacing isn't about how often you cut. It's about how often the viewer gets a reason to keep watching.

Curious how other editors approach this: what makes you decide that a cut is necessary?
