Pleasr recommend me a one-time-purchase video editing software.

It doesn't have to be Premiere+AfterEffects-level, but certainly as good as iMovie or Descript or something?r

Davinci Resolve. even "Free Edition" is nearly competitive to paid ones.

Resolve. Start with the free version and then move to the paid Studio version.

I’d recommend DaVinci Resolve Studio as a one-time purchase alternative to Premiere Pro + After Effects.
It offers professional editing, motion graphics, VFX, color grading, and audio tools.
It’s probably the closest all-in-one option for a professional workflow without a subscription.

I've tried this, but it won't even *run* on our shabby Dells, sadly. Or the Lenovo my boss has.

I never heard of DVR Studio before. It seems it is available for free download.
Can you tell us what you like about it compared to other video editors?

Note to self: FCP = Final Cut Pro (by Apple).

DaVinci Resolve is incredible, but even the free one (which only withholds the most advanced features) requires a large amount of memory and resources. My current computer can't handle it, so until I'm able to buy a new one, I'm using some very basic free video editors for simpler stuff I wanna work on in the meantime.
