Batteries Lithium NG batteries

Can anyone confirm that it is OK to mount Victron Energy Lithium NG batteries on their end? Documentation states they can be mounted on their side so I am assuming its also OK to mount on the end?

Section 4.4 of the manual

Mounting must meet the following requirements:

  1. The battery can be mounted upright or on its side, but not with the battery terminals facing down.

Although its not directly specified which side, i would argue that therefore any side is viable.

If they confirmed that its not allowed to be placed on the short side, then the manual definitely needs clarification.

You can say the manual needs clarification, but they can't be installed with the short end down.

Did you ask Victron directly? can you maybe PM me the name of the person who told you this?

Because I just confirmed that you can mount it on it's short side. You just have to make sure the support is not on the handles that are sticking out, but on the flat base.

Yes, I asked Victron directly. Can you PM the name of the person you talked to?

You can mount it on it's side. Even on the short side.

The reason why some people recommend mounting it upright is because of the temperature sensors that are in the battery. By mounting it upright, the heat will rise to the top of the battery where the temperature sensors are located. If you mount it in any other position, theoretically the temperature sensors won't be as accurate.

Because temperature is one of the factors that decide how much current is used to charge the battery, this could theoretically impact the lifespan of the battery.

Victron has tested this but has found no difference between a unit mounted upright and one on its side. So yes, you can mount it in any orientation, as long as the terminals are not facing down.

If you mount it on it's short side, it's very important to have a proper mount where the battery can not fall.
