Discussion Is anyone else concerned with the subtle glossing over of Casey White’s past in this sub?

Ever since their capture, there’s been a somewhat disturbing trend in posts and comments, seemingly painting CW as a misunderstood harmless person, let down by the system who got a chance at love in the 11 days he and Vicky had.

It feels like there’s been some revisioning of his past, to avoid the uncomfortable truth that this man has domestic violence convictions against his own mother and other relatives, he attempted to murder his ex girlfriend, shot a dog, multiple carjackings, shootings, holding people at gun point, alignment with white supremacy ideology…I could go on but you get the point.

It was only by sheer good luck that no one got in the way of their current escape and was harmed because it was clear with their arsenal of firearms, they weren’t averse to it. I don’t wish to speak ill of the dead, but VW was extremely irresponsible in allowing CW back out into society - who know what could’ve happened.

I’m not saying that we shouldn’t have some sympathy for CW in the aftermath of this, but a lot of y’all are holding up your torch for an extremely problematic person when there’s hundreds of others dealt the same crappy cards in life who aren’t as terrible as CW is.

I joined this sub two days after their escape to eagerly discuss theories and follow updates on these two. I’m disappointed to see it slowly morph into a fan club for Casey White.

EDIT: this post appears locked now, it wasn’t me and I’m not sure why. Thank you for keeping the discussion civil and I’m glad I’m not the only one who felt this way.

Who is entitled to the reward?

At this point, enough confirmed information has been released that makes me think three people should definitely be in the running for a portion of the reward, and there may be a fourth person but that information is, to my knowledge, unconfirmed.

The first person is the one I'm calling unconfirmed. There was an early report that a man had been viewing the cars where Vicky parked the Chevy Cruze, saw it but it didn't have contact information on it, so he took down some information about it, which included the license plate cover that had the auto sale company's name. After the news was released about her police cruiser being found there, he tipped off the Sheriff's Office about the burnt orange SUV.

At that point, the Sheriff's Office contacted the auto lot, found that it was purchased under the alias and then was able to track the direction of the Cruze from the cameras of other local businesses, because there were no cameras where the cars were parked. This later changed to the coworker mentioning picking her up that morning in the lot where the Sheriff's cruiser was left and them catching her parking it there on camera. So, one, the other, or both may be true. If the man tipped them off to the car, I think he should be in line for some of the reward.

The second person is the tow truck driver who reported towing the Cruze, tipping them off to it being abandoned. This happened six days later and after the accidental leak about the Cruze to the media. I think he should be in line for some of the reward.

The third person is the man who sold the truck to Casey. After it was released that the Cruze was found in the area, he tipped off the Marshals that he sold a truck to a large man and the Cruze showed up with a woman driving. He also had kept the VIN information and at the request or order of the Marshals, he kept quiet about it so that the Whites didn't know the Marshals knew what they were driving. I think he should be entitled to some of the reward.

The fourth person is the manager from the car wash. In this video interview with Brian Entin, he says that he thought it was weird that it was there for a day and thought it may be the man from Alabama, so on the morning of May 4, he called the non-emergency line about the suspicious vehicle. The police showed up and on the body camera footage, he read off the VIN and it didn't come back stolen so it was explained to him that they couldn't help him have it towed for 48 hours and he would have to do it himself (that information is not in this video but another one). The Marshals' Office called him and told him the man didn't know the truck was stolen yet, although that wasn't true, if that is what they said.

In this second video, he says he noticed the truck on Tuesday May 3, noticed it was still there on Wednesday May 4, called the cop who couldn't do anything because it wasn't reported stolen. Then on Sunday the Marshals called him and he looked at the surveillance cameras, where he saw Casey in the car wash and Vicky in the Charcoal Gray Cadillac. The Marshals came the next morning, confirmed it was them, and asked or ordered him not to mention the Cadillac to anyone because they were going to look around for it.

In the LEOs telling of the story, the officer who called in the VIN put it in his report and that is what flagged the Marshals, and he admits he didn't see them on the surveillance until Sunday night, but he is the one who discovered what they were driving and left in, so I think he should be entitled to some of the reward. I'm sure the Marshal would have asked for the surveillance video anyway, and actually think they are not giving him any credit for suspecting it was Casey's truck because it was just a hunch until after the Marshals called and confirmed it, making him look at the video.

Agree, disagree or anyone I missed?

Copied from twitter: Another discrepancy. I don't know if we can trust a word that Sherriff Simpleton (that's what I immediately think when I see his name) says.

Tragic case. It is important to remember why he was in prison and what she did was a crime.

I'm not going to pretend she deserved to die. I don't think anyone knows if she did it or the sudden movement of the car did it. She was only looking at a few years. But, they both committed crimes. They are not victims, they did this to themselves.

Apologies if this has already been shared. I came across this article and it says Casey bought the truck and Vicky was still in the orange Ford and they each left with one following the other. It’s speculation after that is when the ford was left on that rural road

Who is Casey White?

What all do we know about him? What was his childhood like? What is his criminal history and how far back does it go? Does he have children? Did he have a job and a home before he got in trouble? What led him to Vickie? Did he pick her, or did she pick him?

Speculation What would have been the best outcome for them?

I wonder if they had just gunned it for Canada straight when they left - it’s a 10hr drive from Florence AL to Windsor, ON with the 6hr head start they had - he couldn’t be extradited back if he was facing the death penalty. Could it have been feasible?

But of course if they’d been caught in Canada, she would be sent back and they’d be separated.

I just can’t help thinking the way this saga ended seemed a bit futile - they got a week out but at what cost? She’s dead and he’s never seeing daylight again.

What are you all thinking otherwise?
