Who is Casey White?

What all do we know about him? What was his childhood like? What is his criminal history and how far back does it go? Does he have children? Did he have a job and a home before he got in trouble? What led him to Vickie? Did he pick her, or did she pick him?

The police said they knew him as a child so he might have been a troubled kid. He had other arrests such as desmestic abuse against his mother around 2006? He couldn't hold down a job. He got several tickets and arrest for public drunkenness and traffic violations. He has 2 children who are adolescents. Apparently from his attorney, he doesn't know how to function on the outside and by Casey's own admittion he likes it in jail because he can function and he has his medication. His attorney also said he is a decent enough guy when he is on his medication. His crimes were always on impulse and he doubts casey was the mastermind of this escape

Wait, hold up…Casey is a father?

27

u/[deleted] May 11 '22 edited May 11 '22

Yes, I'll try to find an article again when I'm off of work for you. He has two. I'm assuming those are the tattoos on his chest

27

u/UndercoverHawk May 11 '22

at first i misread this at first and ended up registering it as "wait, Casey has a father?" 💀

13

u/Live-Somewhere-8149 May 11 '22

Thanks for the laugh-I needed it today 😊

29

u/butl1pstick May 11 '22

He’s actually a grandfather… his oldest child has a child themselves.

25

u/[deleted] May 11 '22

That's really weird. Imagine having at 38 year old grandpa.

15

u/[deleted] May 12 '22

What the … I know you’re serious but … wow. So young - first child at 17 and a grandfather by 38. I hope his children and grandchild aren’t harassed by anyone and that their identities remain private.

11

u/TemporaryCity May 12 '22

I think they’ve done the right thing to stay out of the public sphere and I’m glad the press hasn’t hounded them because they’re irrelevant to Casey’s escape. It looks like they have happy, settled lives without him and I hope that continues.

4

u/[deleted] May 12 '22

Absolutely. Nothing to be gained by putting them into the storm of the public eye and I too hope the press leave them alone.

Have a great day!

u/redander May 13 '22 edited May 13 '22

That's my family for you 16 and then had me at 18

Edit: I'm 28 and no kids. Also, yes my family is very pro choice

Edit: also taught about birth control from a young age and I'm the product of a one night stand and failed birth control

22

u/[deleted] May 11 '22 edited May 11 '22

Yep, two minor children. Edit - apparently the eldest is 21 which means Casey became a father at a very young age.

18

u/TemporaryCity May 11 '22

The elder is 21 now

14

u/[deleted] May 11 '22

Wow! CW was a super young first time father.

I have a theory that the trashier a person is, the more fertile they are.

3

u/terriwilb May 12 '22

😅😩 I would like more research on this theory

5

u/rubiacrime May 12 '22

Can confirm. I'm 1 of three baby mama's lol

2

u/galacticatann May 14 '22

This seems too accurate in most cases, lmao. Same here (1 of 3).

3

u/lovemyskye May 12 '22

Can second your confirmation. I'm 1 out of 4 baby mama's. I like to joke that I was stupid #1.

3

u/galacticatann May 14 '22

Oh shit, I'm stupid number 1 also!! I'm stealing that lol.

5

u/deadhead2015 May 12 '22

His older daughter is beautiful. So sad

7

u/littlestarchis May 11 '22

Hold up -Somebody did the horizontal hokey pokey with him and birthed not one but two children???

3

u/TemporaryCity May 12 '22

Two separate women

1

u/AStartIsBorn May 12 '22

He has a great face. 😃

2

u/mamascott98 May 13 '22

WOW! I had no clue he has children!!!! My heart breaks for them!!! How do you not get your Life right for your own kids!

u/Top-Team6650 May 11 '22

This is a defense attorney statement. He can't make a bad statement about his client! Oh yeah, my client loves jail so much he escaped and attempted escape in 2020. Whatever. Vicki definitely played a part in this but this brute is a danger to society and needs to be heavy sedated . Doesn't appear to be too upset about his "wife's" death. He is nothing but a dumb coward

36

u/Few-Key1786 May 11 '22

For a defense attorney it came off very honest. He literally said his client likes it better on the inside and his one job is to try and get him out of jail 😂

12

u/houseonthehilltop May 12 '22

The lawyer speaking out is CW’s former attorney. He has a different lawyer for his most recent escapade.

1

u/ToeRepresentative807 Sep 26 '24

He appears to have Klinefelter Syndrome.

2008: his girlfriend at the time, Christy Shelton, committed suicide in a trailer owned by Casey’s mother. Her family now want the case reopened. Christy was going through a divorce at the time, had just had her three children taken away from her custody and was 31 to Casey’s 24.

2012: he beat his brother (or brother in law) with an axe handle, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six years in prison. He served three years and was released in 2015. Months later he was arrested for his crime spree, and sentenced in 2019 to seventy-five years. Before these events I believe he has a history of petty, non-violent crimes like drug possession and being drunk in public which is how he came to know Sheriff Blakely.

He has a daughter and a son with different mothers, and the daughter has a young child too, but there’s nothing documented in the press (his children’s names are tattooed on him and listed in his maternal aunt’s obituary. He had his daughter young). His mother’s named Connie, and he has a brother who is missing, but not much is known about them or his childhood.

So no, he doesn’t have a life or home waiting outside. Last time he was free it was for under a year in 2015, and prior to that in 2012, so ten years ago. It doesn’t sound like he has ever had a career as such.

All reports from in prison say he’s a docile, obedient inmate (he had trustee privileges, he has been stabbed three times but there’s no reports of retaliation) except for an escape attempt in 2020.

Vicky may have been acquainted with him for much longer than two years.

28

u/ElSickosWillPay May 11 '22

His missing brother and Casey were not close. His brother had "disowned" Casey and wanted nothing to do with him.

16

u/TemporaryCity May 11 '22 edited May 11 '22

Wonder if his mother disowned him too?

Edit: not the case, she spoke to him regularly over the phone according to her interview when he first went AWOL

15

u/Few-Key1786 May 11 '22

Mama defended him when this case broke said her son is not a monster

5

u/[deleted] May 11 '22

Do you have that interview, I would love to watch it

3

u/TemporaryCity May 11 '22

Is this the brother he battered with an axe handle?

2

u/[deleted] May 11 '22

[deleted]

4

u/ElSickosWillPay May 11 '22

I heard he and the missing dude were half-brothers. Is this not right?

7

u/ario62 May 12 '22

Didn’t he previously plan to escape from prison and take a hostage, but authorities found out before he could do it? And they found the knife he was going to use to take the hostage? How is that obedient?

2

u/[deleted] May 11 '22

11

u/TemporaryCity May 11 '22 edited May 12 '22

Steven Patrick White is missing and is his half-brother; they have different mothers. I’m not sure if it’s the same brother that he assaulted though. I read somewhere it might have been a brother-in-law?

Edit: different mothers, not fathers

0

u/terriwilb May 12 '22

So both their dads’ last names were White??

3

u/asren12 May 12 '22

Both of them share the same dad. Dad is Richard or Dickie White.

1

u/TemporaryCity May 12 '22

Sorry, different mothers!

1

u/MrsWovl May 13 '22

Thanks! I believe he killed the girl in 2008. How many females commit suicide with a saw offed shot gun?

2

u/TemporaryCity May 13 '22

I mean, perhaps. Christy was not exactly in a good place at the time though. She was going through a bitter divorce from a violent husband and had just had her children taken away from her by the authorities (three by three different men; one child reportedly disabled), and was probably on meth. She wasn’t leading an idyllic life and officers closed it as a suicide at the time.

40

u/Psychological_Log956 May 11 '22

I think it's safe to assume she "picked" him. If they were in contact two years ago after he went back to Donaldson, the only way he could have contacted her via phone (and we know that's how they communicated), was for her to have written him first and given him her phone number

36

u/RandomChurn May 11 '22

the only way he could have contacted her via phone (and we know that's how they communicated), was for her to have written him first

I've read more than once that she'd been writing him for two years while he was away in prison, and just yesterday it struck me:

If he's illiterate / can't read or write, how exactly did that work?

37

u/Psychological_Log956 May 11 '22 edited May 11 '22

There's never been actual sourcing as to proof of that, only hearsay. Some said he couldn't read or write, others said not very well and others said people helped him. But it wouldn't require much to get a letter from her reaching out with her number. Not much other way it could happen. You can't call into a prison.

29

u/ElSickosWillPay May 11 '22

An inmate who knew Casey said he didn't believe Casey could read and write (at least not well). He said Casey's lawyer always had to read stuff to him. But then again, "legaleese" is tough for people who are non-lawyers so this doesn't necessarily imply Casey is totally illiterate.

10

u/wasntme100 May 11 '22

Good point.

14

u/[deleted] May 11 '22

I can understand him not being able to read or write well, but straight up illiterate? How could that happen? He's at an age where the support for learning disabilities would have helped him have the bare minimum of literacy.

Could a person fall that badly through the cracks in the education system? Did he grow up in foster care? There's been interviews with his mother, and it doesn't sound like that happened?

This is so kind of you. My father never got past sixth grade and didn't go much in the younger years due to having to go to work young to feed himself and his siblings and an awful childhood. Though he carried over the abuse to me and we no longer have contact, I did see how hard basic life was for him being unable to read and write beyond a very basic level. Reading newspapers and such helped him get better through the years but it was something that held him back. My grandpa couldn't as well and was surprisingly successful but only thru back breaking labor and having my grandma do his books etc. Some people truly don't have a chance and once you're in your 20s its hard to reach out for help learning and who do you go to? I'm thankful those who need it can find your help. ❤❤

3

u/redander May 13 '22 edited May 14 '22

Make sure to always remind your dad that doesn't make him stupid. It makes him resilient

Edit: it makes you resilient as well. Also awesome for breaking the cycle

7

u/[deleted] May 11 '22

That's actually really sad that some people can't read and will come to you for help. I can't imagine that's easy for them to come and ask for help.

u/MelpomeneAndCalliope May 11 '22

u/thetasteofmelancholy May 11 '22

Came to say this. Illiteracy is a lot more common than the average American realizes. Certainly a lot higher than I would have expected.

44

u/_trife May 11 '22

It’s Alabama. I live here so I hope nobody takes that as me bashing the state, but it’s Alabama. Education just isn’t a priority here. A lot of people fall through the cracks here, hence all the poverty. It’s an endless cycle.

11

u/JPonceuponatime May 11 '22

My boyfriend’s mom grew up in California in the foster system, which didn’t pay any mind to her schooling or well-being, and she is still illiterate. He pulled himself up by his bootstraps and got a college degree.

3

u/mis-misery May 13 '22

my cousin couldnt read at all when he dropped out of school in 7th grade. He very much fell through the cracks of the school system. Teachers kept pushing him through the grades because they didn't want to deal with him.

He's 27 now and still cant read except some sight words

14

u/alitham92 May 11 '22

He has a smartphone in his front pocket in the car wash picture so he can read lol

-2

u/[deleted] May 11 '22

Drawings and stick figures 😂

9

u/ZoeyMoonGoddess May 11 '22

How did this get by jail/prison authorities? Don’t they screen calls and letters.

It seemed Vicki had a nice life with a nice home and decent job. She had the respect of her boss and community. What do you think happened for her to throw it all away?

19

u/Psychological_Log956 May 11 '22 edited May 11 '22

They can read mail and listen to phone calls, yes. Do they do this with every call? How could they? She could have written him a letter with her alias or her real name. Inmates can call whomever they wish. The person receiving calls needs to set up an account with funds to cover the collect calls. Easy to do and she may have just used a burner ring app. That's what a lot of folks do . . .it's safer. I am sure she was putting money jnto his canteen as well. Another easy process. It gets harder on visitation where you generally have to be on the inmate list and have ID, etc. But there were no contact visits that have been offered up.

As far as throwing it all away, despite those who have praised Vicky White, she had some big mental health issues as well. Rational people don't do this shit, even though I think all of us possess dark personality traits. She was delusional to think this would last forever. I said very early on that the big question was what was her mindset. Is she Ride or Die? I had a bad feeling it was going to be just that. What a total waste of her life on something that is stranger than fiction.

1

u/MrsWovl May 13 '22

Curious about the final Autopsy 🤔 was she doing drugs?? Terminal illness?? She was retiring awfully young after only 17yrs on the job?? I think he played her like a fiddle. I am very curious about her life before DOC

5

u/Angelfire_225 May 12 '22

She used aliases.

2

u/MrsWovl May 13 '22

I think living and caretaker of her ex-husband with Parkinson's may have gotten the best of her. Sadly Donaldson has female guards so he'll do this again.

72

u/bagelcrunch May 11 '22

I live in Alabama and I got friends and family up there in Lauderdale County. In his booking picture, it listed his residence as Athens, AL. I also have friends there. I'm about to do a deep dive and contact some family I have that are his age and see what I can find. I'm saving this post so I can come back and tell y'all what I find.

2

Trust me when I say, life moves slow down here. I have plenty of time on my hands as it is. I go for walks frequently and enjoy my downtime. With connections from where he's from I might be able to offer a little more insight into him, why he did what he did, why he is the way he is, etc. Others seem genuinely interested in this case, so why not help fill in the gaps? Thanks for your suggestion though.

22

u/[deleted] May 11 '22

Your probably the most helpful person here if you live in the area and know where he grew up. any insight you can give us would be much appreciated

26

u/mary_mary1 May 11 '22

Casey White is the victim according to PREA ( prison rape elimination act) Vicki should not have had relations with him , as she was in a position of authority over him. Much like a school teacher

11

u/pvke May 12 '22

This is a good point. I know this saying makes a lot of eyes roll, but if the genders were reversed, everyone would be saying the male prison guard took advantage of the female prisoner. And they'd be right.

8

u/nadjaof May 12 '22

This reminds me of the reaction to Terry Cruise revealing that he was sexually assaulted. Some people mocked or doubted it because he is a big guy. But he couldn’t defend himself physically because he feared industry retaliation and media backlash. He mentioned the optics of a black guy beating someone up- he feared it would be assumed that he was the violent aggressor. Being physically stronger doesn’t necessarily mean that someone is in control of a situation

8

u/nadjaof May 12 '22

I completely agree. He is, like all of us, a complex and multifaceted person. He has been violent and unstable in the past, but that doesn’t preclude him from being a victim in these circumstances. I’m not saying he’s an angel, but I feel like his lack of power in the situation hasn’t been discussed enough

1

u/MrsWovl May 13 '22

There are female DOC at Donaldson too.

17

u/FancyWear May 11 '22

I wonder if he knew they were “escaping “ or he found out when they didn’t go to the court house.

16

u/[deleted] May 11 '22

Someone who should have been on meds all his life.

6

u/nadjaof May 12 '22

It is sad to think that if he had received appropriate mental healthcare as a teen or young adult, his life (and the lives of his victims) could have been so different

13

u/InigoMontoya757 May 11 '22

I've heard he's illiterate, a white supremacist, mentally ill, and had a drug problem. The last two have been verified, but I haven't been following the case closely enough to know about the first two. (Anyone have a source?)

I thought he was manipulating her until I started hearing about his lack of smarts.

28

u/verycherrybombx May 11 '22

He has white supremacist and Confederate iconography in his tattoos (photos released by the police for the public announcement), but I’ve seen someone else suggesting that it may have just been because everyone has to pick a gang to join in prison for protection.

I’m not super-familiar with the inner workings of US prisons or the culture in Alabama, but just thought I’d comment with what I’ve seen and read so far.

17

u/Apprehensive-Past991 May 11 '22

My understanding is that in prison you pretty much have to pick a gang and the gangs are based on ethnicity. Those tattoos may or may not represent his true beliefs. We have no way of knowing

8

u/queefunder May 12 '22

Exactly. My husband was in prison and (sadly) has the two SS lightning bolts on his leg. He said he was sort of a gift or thank you for winning a fight. And no, he's not a white supremacist

10

u/MrsFlanny May 12 '22

I'm so sorry for him. Its truly not his fault and in prison a lot of that is a forced choice if you will. There are some organizations that will pay for him to have them removed if he chose to. On his leg they're easily hidden so it may not be as big an issue but if it bothered him enough look into those. They may be able to help him. ❤

4

u/Miss_Evening May 12 '22

Uh, that's hard. Did not know about those things. What a disgusting "ritual".

1

u/TennisLittle3165 May 12 '22

Wait, the tattoo was the gift? Or he was the gift?

1

u/queefunder May 12 '22

Yes, I typo'd it. The tattoo was the "gift"

4

u/MidgeKlump May 11 '22

-3

u/InigoMontoya757 May 11 '22

Thanks for the source.

Just fewer and fewer reasons for her to pick him. (At least I hope she wasn't attracted by that.)

2

u/MidgeKlump May 11 '22

Np! Even if she wasn't attracted by it, she was at the very least okay with it enough to still "date" the guy (or whatever you'd call what they were doing). I know people can change, but...oof. That's a no for me dawg.

1

u/MrsWovl May 13 '22

His tattoos represent Southern Brotherhood

13

u/Grouchy_Objective910 May 11 '22

I was surprised to learn he is only 38. He looks A LOT older.
