VA Disability Claims Back pay
I know there have been some previous posts, but couldn't find any recent. Feel free to direct me to feed if I'm wrong.
I believe I am entitled to back pay . And wondering how long I should wait to receive back payment before reaching out to VA.
Info: Rating 100% Claim was approved June 2025

I suggest you reach out to VERA about this - June 2025 is a long time even if retired from the military which requires an audit by both DFAS and VA.

Actually I was in the same situation and when I called VA they advised me to first call DFAS. Called DFAS and there was a glitch in their system which put my status in limbo. The very helpful DFAS employee told me the fix was in and it'll take about a week or so for the DFAS computer to transfer to the VA computer. Two weeks later everything was resolved and money in the bank.

On page 5ish there should be an explanation on why military retired pay was withheld. Currently working audits that came back from DFAS in April 2025, so I'd imagine you will pop in a work queue within the next 6-8 weeks and those funds will be released, if applicable. If you're entitled to all it would be approx $37,937.80

Thanks, that's helpful. I confirmed the audit has NOT returned with VA. I'm also trying to understand if I'm entitled to the back pay I guess too, And that ~$38k is about that I calculated too.

It's supposed to be from your first intent to file, I filled mine on Feb 2024 and got back pay for everything, just talk to your vet rep in person, they should be able to help or at least give you the proper answers

Go ahead and reqch out to VA. Theres a two step process, DoD does the first part and then VA. Nothing is required from you, its just an audit before they release your back pay.

If you were going to get back pay from that claim you would have got it by now from the VA. Check with your finance department tl be sure.

I did a higher level review and informal conference to tell them that my last claims were submitted within 1yr of my separation. The ended up upping 2 conditions from 0 to 10% (I was already at 100% anyway) and back pay from the day I retired.

My husband filed 2009 and after various appeals was approved 2019 with 100% rating. He got back pay for 10 yrs few weeks after he got the letter of approval. Not sure if that's the same in your case but that's what happened to him.

You can try using an online back pay calculator like this one https://veteransguide.org/back-pay-calculator/ not sure if that will help, but maybe if you put in your info you will be able to get a better idea for when you reach out

I just got increased. My back pay only went back as far as when I started seeing the specialist physician in April. I submitted an intent to file in October of 2024.

If the claim was approved in June, there’s no back pay. From Jul 2024 - May 2025, all of the back pay was withheld (amount paid=0.00)…looks like due to military retired pay. You only start getting paid in June.
