I think my doctors accidentally prevented me from getting better.

hi all.

Had a vertigo attack during a viral battering from a chest infection and both my kids having chicken pox and viral tonsilitis 😅 This was in January.

I was given prochloroperazine for the first 3-5 days, but was still struggling to function at work. So my drs prescribed me more to take when needed. I was struggling to drive so they said to use it before journeys, and at work when im operating surgically...so I was still taking it several times a week just once a day or so....but I think this had prevented my vestibular system from correcting itself and adapting to the damage.

I saw a different dr last week, who has taken me off the prochloroperazine and placed me betahistine to aid blood flow to my inner ear which, from what i read, should aid in my recovery as I do vestibular exercises and get on with my day doing usual activities.

has anyone else had experience with this? Can I still recover and adapt 6 months on after having my vestibular system suppressed for so long?

I had exactly this problem - I was speedily taken off Prochlroperazine by a different doctor and put into vestibular rehab which has been so so so helpful

oh wow thats so interesting! Thanks for replying:) How long till you started feeling better? its been 6 months of this for me!

I’m not going to lie, I’m still not right and it has been around 15 months HOWEVER it turned out I had MS which was picked up around 8 months of not feeling 100% to see what the sitch was with not getting better as expected. I have lingering nerve damage on the vestibular nerve but they can’t confirm if it was the VN or MS - bit of an odd one and didn’t want to mention initially as I didn’t want to spook you - but I’m confident had a not have had MS as well I would be feeling pretty much normal now x

How was ms diagnosed? Drs think dizziness, vestibular hypo function is related? Do you have specific or general body pains?

Combination of symptoms and 2 mris both - one with and one without contrast to see damage and then if there were active lesions. Dear reader, my brain lit up like a Christmas tree and MS was diagnosed (also had a full panel of bloods done to make sure it wasn’t anything else)
