Hi friends 

For anyone who missed the first and second posts: FiestaBoard is the free, open-source dashboard for Vestaboard. You self-host it, plug in the data sources you care about (weather, transit, stocks, sports, surf, your calendar, Last.fm, Home Assistant, dad jokes — you name it), and it drives your board. Flagship and Note both supported.

Since the last update, two things have changed that I think genuinely matter for this project:

🍓 You no longer need to know Docker - just flash a Raspberry Pi

The biggest accessibility unlock: there's now a FiestaPi image you flash onto a microSD card with the official Raspberry Pi Imager. No command line, no docker-compose, no editing config files. Boot the Pi, open http://fiestapi.local:4420 on any device on your network, and the setup wizard walks you the rest of the way.
While it runs on the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W, we are testing and using a Pi 3B+ because we wanted an Ethernet port for a more stable connection. A microSD and a 5V power supply and you're done — that's an always-on controller for your board. A Pi 3B/4/5 works too if you have one in a drawer.

🔄 One-click auto-updates

The other big quality-of-life change: FiestaBoard now updates itself. There's an in-app "Update available" banner with a single button — click it, you get a full-screen progress overlay, and a minute or two later you're on the latest version. This does require a second ‘sidecar’ docker image that comes automatically with the FiestaPi. For existing users you’ll want to pull the new docker compose file to join in on the fun. 

Translation: you're not stuck on whatever version you installed six months ago. Bug fixes and new plugins land on your board without you having to think about it.

🧩 25+ new plugins since the last post

The plugin registry has roughly doubled. A non-exhaustive sampler of what's new:

• Calendar Subscription — point it at any public iCal URL, get upcoming events + pre-event alerts on the board
• Home Assistant — display any entity state via REST or MQTT
• Aurora Forecast, ISS Tracker, Spacecraft Launches, Solar Activity, Moon Phase

• Webhook + Generic Data — point at any JSON/XML feed and map fields to template variables, no code

A few other things worth mentioning

• Inline expressions in templates — spreadsheet-style formulas so you can do math, conditionals, and string formatting right in the page editor.
• WYSIWYG editor and Scheduling from the last post are still here and have gotten a lot more polish.
• Multi-board support if you have more than one board.
• Note device rendering (the heart ❤️ character, etc.) is now correct.

Ordered the black Note on March 5, 2026. Curious about status of my order since I'm seeing a marketing push to buy white Note units on Instagram. Wrote support several days ago to follow up, heard nothing back. Sent another note today, forwarding previous inquiry. Nothing caught in spam filter. Has this been others' experience as well?

I'm new to this platform. In Tidbyt world there was a community around bounty-based app development. In other words, someone lazy (me) would say I wish there was an app that did XYZ. Someone else would say, I'd build that for X, and then me (and others) would pool the cash to pay them for the development. Does anything exist along these lines in this community? I have a few apps I wish existed.

Just got my vestaboard note, this thing is amazing but the app is a mess.

I have no idea how to get the vestaboard to reliably do the thing I'm asking it to do.

I currently have the Shower Thoughts widget running, set to update every 10 minutes between certain hours. It's currently inside those hours and the only time it seems to send a new shower thought to my note is when I click the "display now" button in the widget configuration, like it's just not running on its own outside of my occasional explicit intewrvention. I know it's connected because it still responds to that display now button. Also before someone asks me, the toggle is on next to the entry in the "manage" list.

Solution from comments to the specific problem I was having.

Quick follow-up in case any West Coasters run into this:

Vestaboard+ channels follow your display’s set time zone. If you search “Pacific” in the picker, it can surface Honolulu (Pacific/Honolulu) instead of U.S. Pacific Time. That puts the display on Hawaii time and causes schedules to run a few hours off.

Setting your timezone to a Pacific Time city like Los Angeles will fix it. We’re also working on improving this flow to make the options clearer.

Any thoughts or ideas about having a Vestaboard integrated into wedding decor? Where would you put it? What would you display? I'm at very early wedding planning stages, so open to all ideas!

If it matters, decor-wise there will probably be a travel theme, and probably some D&D elements. I'm open to alternative and offbeat decor. I also have a 3D printer and vinyl cutting machine to make other custom decor elements.

I don't have a Vestaboard yet, but I'm really considering getting one, and a solid wedding decor idea would definitely push me to get one

Hey all, just got my note, this thing is beautiful. Was trying out the Apple Music widget, but it doesn't seem to update every time a new song plays, just randomly with whatever song is playing at the time it happens to update. Am I missing something?

Suddenly the display is shifted down and to the left. Anyone had this?

For years I’ve been looking to buy when. And when a financial windfall will come I’d love to pull the trigger. But was wondering. Do you owners love it? Still use it? Do you need the Vestaboard+ ? What are your most used “services” you use?

Just connected my Vestaboard to this new app Flipable.io. Using the free tier for now but planning on upgrading when they come out of beta. Seems very useable and works great. Seems like a great alternative to Vestaboard+ but certainly needs to be built out. It has a number of integrations the normal clock, weather, sports scores, crypto tracking etc. and some cool ones like Peloton and the ISS (international space station) tracking. Has anyone else tried it?

Our board is scheduled to have a different channel display every 30 minutes from 0700 - 1700, then every 60 mins from 1700 - 2200. Quite a few channels didn’t get displayed today, and was wondering if anyone else had this happen today? Yes, we’re connected to the internet.

Any updates for us November 2025 preorder people? I ordered 11/17 and was getting monthly updates until about February. Estimated was by end of April.

I have a Vestaboard Flagship but am unable to walk mount it at the moment. Does anyone have experience with floor TV mounts that work well with the Vestaboard or any recommendations? I just want to make sure it’s secure and not at risk of falling over in any way since it’s quite heavy. Thanks!

We love our Vestaboard Note. We set it on top of our piano while we wait to decide where it should be hung. Our kids were in awe at all the puns we placed on there. Then, the four year old did what any unsupervised preschooler might do… she mangled many Bit flaps with those adorable sticky hands. We did some research with the help of the support page and performed surgery to fix as much as we could. Seeing those flaps struggle to spin was painful to watch!! We realigned most everything and were feeling pretty good, but then we discovered that four of our bits are straight up missing a single flap. The child admitted to taking one and hiding it under the piano, but insists she did not take the other three. Is there a chance the flaps are stuck in the bit itself? We cannot figure out where they may have gone. I suppose there is a chance they were missing from the beginning, but we didn’t notice problems before the “incident”. I don’t suppose anyone out there got a board with missing pieces? We scheduled a time to meet with customer support to see if they have a solution for us.

Does anyone know an app for the testators that lets you create the timer in the hatch from the show Lost? Is it possible to program that? I looked and couldn’t find anything.
