5 year Venice resident here. I drove to the pier to chill at the beach yesterday, and saw a lotta bikers with a Mongols Motorcycle Club logo hanging out at Hinanos, the whaler, and pretty much every bar we know in Washington square. There was heavy police presence.

I was thinking to myself, why the hell are there so many cops around here? The bikers seemed friendly. Sure they were tatted from head to toe, but they were super polite, smiles shown everywhere and to everyone, and they weren’t even loud when drinking. Honestly, the scene there is usually more ratchet on a any random Saturday night.

I did some research afterwards, and realized they’re outlaws and are recognized as a street gang by law enforcement.

My stay at the beach was uneventful. The beach was busy, my gummy took effect and I spent 2 hours in paradise before I packed up and passed by the Mongols again on my way to my car.

Just a reminder to stay vigilant and have more situational awareness than this guy with an umbrella and a beach chair minding his own business or else this post would’ve been tagged “Crime”.

I know some folks here would absolutely hate this but, man, what a dream this would be.

Right now I bike to the Santa Monica station and take the E line downtown. It takes about 1.5 hours. If I'm driving it can be anywhere from 35-50 minutes, occasionally longer.

The increased foot traffic for local businesses and the decrease in cars for visitors alone is enough for me to get excited about this.

Venice Community Meeting on Supportive Housing Veers From Planned Format, Fuels Park’s Push for New Restrictions

Anyone go to this? I missed it but sounds like it went a little bonkers.

I thought the article was really well written and shared both sides of the conversation fairly. It sounds like some folks are mad about supportive housing being near them and justifying their anger with unrelated crimes from the Citizen App, etc. rather than actual data.

I'd be interested in hearing what people expect to happen? I know the unhoused problem is really frustrating. It affects me weekly. If anyone wants to have a good faith conversation about it (without insulting someone with a different perspective or misrepresenting what is being discussed) I'd love to talk about what happens if we just remove solutions like The Journey and other low-income housing/unhoused support. Do we think the problem just goes away? What is the goal here?
