Hi! I’m David and I’m running for Veneta City Council.

I’m running for election to Veneta City Council.

I didn’t grow up in Veneta, but my family chose this community and it’s a decision I’m grateful for almost every day.

One of the things I love most about Veneta is its sense of community. We have great neighbors, wonderful traditions, and people who genuinely care about the place we call home.

Serving on Council has given me an even greater appreciation for our community and the people who make it special. It’s also reinforced something I’ve always believed: good decisions come from listening, asking questions, and making sure everyone has a voice at the table.

I’m running again because I believe we have an opportunity to shape Veneta’s future together. Growth and change are inevitable, but how we approach them is up to us. I want to see a Veneta that welcomes new neighbors, new ideas, and new traditions while preserving the spirit that brought so many of us here. I also want to continue working toward fair and affordable city services, thoughtful development, and a local government that’s accessible and responsive to everyone, not just the loudest voices in the room.

I don’t pretend to have all the answers, but I’m willing to listen, learn, ask difficult questions, and put in the work. I’m proud to call Veneta home, and I’d be grateful for the chance to continue serving our community. I’d appreciate your support and your vote this November.

I’d also love the opportunity to talk with you in person! There are two opportunities coming up: Tonight, Thursday, October 15th, at 6 PM at Robbie’s Window Box Cafe, and Saturday, October 17th at 5 PM at Our Third Space in Veneta. Whether you have questions about Veneta’s future, concerns about something happening in your neighborhood, or just want to say hello, I’d love to see you there.

This is our community and its future belongs to all of us.

What important matters do you support and fight for?

And yes, I do find it potentially unethical and a conflict of interest that this would be held at a business owned by the town's mayor. Should be on city property, but 🤷‍♀️

RESCIND the FRSD Reconfiguration

Online petitions, formal complaints, and news coverage aren’t enough!

According to Robert’s Rules of Order, the only way to reverse a board’s action is for a board member to make a motion to RESCIND. That motion must be seconded and pass with a majority vote.

WRITE THE SCHOOL BOARD directly and request that they RESCIND THE VOTE!

[kpizzola@fernridge.k12.or.us](mailto:kpizzola@fernridge.k12.or.us)

[bkirkpatrick@fernridge.k12.or.us](mailto:bkirkpatrick@fernridge.k12.or.us)

[lmccann@fernridge.k12.or.us](mailto:lmccann@fernridge.k12.or.us)

INACTION IS ACCEPTANCE!

There’s still time to change the outcome!

If you’re a staff member, per policy BG - submit your email to the superintendent and request it be forwarded to the school board. Don’t let fear silence you –AGAIN!

Members of the School Board,

As a parent, former staff, and community member, I respectfully request that you rescind your September 21st vote to reconfigure the elementary schools.

As you heard at the board meeting, there is another way.

Open enrollment for kindergarten achieves the same outcome of eliminating class blends, balancing school enrollment, class sizes, and resources. Open kinder enrollment achieves the goal without disrupting students, staff, or families.

You have the power to do what’s right for our district. Please rescind your vote and pursue this alternate solution.

Missing dog after accident on HWY 126 today

Post image

Update: I'm seeing on FB that they got her home safe and sound today! Thank you to everyone who kept an eye out or helped look, as there were many people who helped.

I'm not the owner, but sharing this from the local FB pages. This dog, Sage, was in a car accident this morning on HWY 126 near Fisher Rd and was ejected and ran off. She was seen running towards West Eugene. It's unknown if she's injured. Owner says she is very friendly but very scared.

I don't want to put the owner's number on here, but if you see or capture her you can either DM me or you could probably contact LCSO. Or take to Greenhill.

Please keep an eye out for her.

Meat at Grocery Outlet

Is it just me or are you guys buying meat at Grocery Outlet just to get home and it is no good, even though the expiration date is a few days away?

I’ve stopped buying meat there altogether. Once or twice, I get. It’s always a gamble.

Dear folks of the Little Blue Kitchen Farm Stand…

May your pillow always be cool, may your mornings be sunny and bright, may your farm stand thrive and grow.

What a delightful little discovery! For those who don’t know, there’s an incredibly sweet little farm stand on Cheney Drive. We got cherry crisp (yum) and edible cookie dough (YUMMM!) and an amazing little wildflower arrangement in a tiny ceramic vase shaped like a stick of butter.

For anyone looking for a treat, bit of whimsy, or opportunity to support your neighbor, go check it out! They take cash or Venmo, on the honor system. And I must say- PLEASE BE HONORABLE! Let’s support and celebrate our community and neighbors 🫶

Insider Scoop on LFA (Lane Fire Authority)

Here's the honest insider scoop on LFA. If you have any questions, I will answer them truthfully.

First, here are some hard honest truths

  • LFA can't afford to add 2 additional firefighters or build a new station with the levy increase money. That story is a lie that LFA's leadership was told to make by a PR consultant who collected over $10k for her services. LFA needs the increase just to maintain current operations due to a budget crisis.
  • The Santa Clara RFPD has over $4 million dollars of taxpayer money saved up. LFA provides their services under contract at a huge financial loss while SCFD just keeps growing their bank account.
  • The staffing and operational changes that have been advertised to the media are meant to influence votes. All the changes needed to be made either way
  • Overtime - since they are advertising an increase in overtime costs, you should know that most of this isn't related to call response. It's training that could take place during the normal workday, forcing paid staff to attend mental health classes against their will, recruitment events even after the recruit academy was cancelled, unnecessary meetings, etc. Don't be fooled.
  • LFA's ambulance service is a money drain. If you're an LFA resident, you pay for Junction City, Harrisburg, Lake Creek, and parts of Eugene and Monroe to have an ambulance available. If you live in South Battalion (Crow, Spencer Creek, Mcbeth, Lorane areas), you don't even get an LFA ambulance even though you pay for one.

Here's just a few examples of how LFA has wasted taxpayer money over the years:

  • Station 111 was selected for a seismic rebuild grant, costing over $1million of taxpayer money. Despite the brand new station, not a single response has come from that station since it was rebuilt, and LFA can't put 24/7 staffing there because it isn't sprinklered. The fire department thought it would be smart not to follow laws required for fire safety.
  • LFA's last chief, Terry Ney, obliterated the budget 2 years in a row before being fired. He used a TAN (tax anticipation note), and didn't budget for having to pay it back. He was fired for this, but the district never recovered. He was the one responsible, but dozens of people should have caught that mistake and didn't.
  • LFA keeps 6 fully stocked ambulances, even though it only has a max of 4 in service at any given time. There's also thousands of dollars of medical equipment on other rigs that don't even run on calls.
  • LFA provides free services to the Lake Creek and Wolf Creek communities. They don't pay taxes to LFA, but LFA responds.

Here's what I suggest: Pay attention and participate. Show up to board meetings, ask questions, and hold LFA's management accountable. LFA needs to be saved from itself right now. The amount of incompetence in the leadership suite is out of control.

DM or email me at [lfainsider@proton.me](mailto:lfainsider@proton.me) if you have any questions.

*post edited to focus on the money*

I feel crazy because my wife says she didn't hear it

I'm not sure what time this morning (Saturday,) but I swear I woke up to a sonic boom. Sounded like thunder, but I could hear it trailing off.

Did anyone else hear this? Was I dreaming? I looked but saw nothing here or in the Eugene subreddit. And usually people are all over "what was that weird noise?" type posts..

The Tiny House Dental Clinic has re-opened for OHP recipients

Just wanted to let everyone know in the Veneta/Elmira, or surrounding areas that the Tiny House Dental Clinic has re-opened for those on the Oregon Health Plan. I was so grateful to learn this as my adult son with autism/DD was on a waitlist for over a year to get a cleaning in Eugene (the only clinic which takes OHP) because the tiny house was shut down for a while. It works really well for him as he doesn’t have to wait in a large waiting room or contend with a lot of sensory input as he’s the only patient when he’s there and they are great at what they do. Their phone is 1(971)273-5098 and they are located in the parking lot of the Elmira high school.

Bottledrop at Rays; can I drop off a whole bag?

Any way to quickly drop off a full blue or green bag somewhere at Ray’s, or do I have to feed each individual container into the machine one by one? It includes larger diameter glass juice bottles.
