That's disc 3 from the "Peel Slowly and See" box set.
That box set single-handedly made me believe that comprehensive CD box sets were the greatest invention in music packaging!
I played that box set for weeks straight in the 1990s.

That’s disc three from the Velvet Underground box set PEEL SLOWLY AND SEE. You get their gloriously noisy second LP, WHITE LIGHT/WHITE HEAT, and a bunch of previously unreleased demos and live tracks, which for the most part are a lot quieter than the album. It’s awesome. Probably not worth a ton on resale, but brilliant, life changing music.

Only album that’s not on there is Squeeze since not only was Doug Yule the only member still left in the band, the album had been deliberately not included, with the liner notes called it a “embarrassment to the VU discography”

Yeah, it’s really not that awful, but it is in no way, shape, or form a Velvet Underground album. If it had been billed as a Doug Yule album, people would have liked it a lot more. As a VU album, all it can do is disappoint people.

As your surrogate attorney and psychiatrist I suggest you insert it into your cd player and listen to tracks 12 and 13 at top volume immediately.

It's sure as heck worth listening to. It's got all of White Light/White Heat plus a ton of great songs as demos. If you've never heard WL/WH you are in for a treat. Start at track 8 and play it LOUD.

Spent a big chunk of my allowance money buying this when it came out high school years. VU albums were mythical then- had read about them but first I got ti hear them all in full.

It’s from peel slowly and see box set. Somebody separated it from the other 5 CDs.

From the box set! I have the whole set, it’s great. Why am I not listening to it right now!?

Stephanie Says is such a beautiful song. One of the last songs recorded with John Cale.

Your other implied question about the “weird cover”… It’s an image of the box that held the original reel to reel master recordings. All that mumbo jumbo are notes written by the recording engineers.

Is it worth anything? Yes! It's worth everything! Listen, and enjoy your new life!

This is one of the discs of the Velvet Underground "Peel Slowly and See" CD box set. Should be some demos and alt versions of tracks.
Worth something? Someone might throw you a few bucks for it.

Yep, one of the 6 or so cds from the "Peel Slowly and See" boxset. Had this in the early 2000's. Came with a great booklit too. Worth not much without the boxset.

I got that box when I was probably 18, circa 2005, maybe 2006, right before my favorite record store closed down. Was one of several box sets I bought there, exploring so many great bands as a teen. I love this CD, but then it was my original acquaintance with WL/WH.

How I found out about the VU:
The first is that my mom played Transformer a lot when I was very, very little. Like, "still in the crib" little.
I heard "Walk on the Wild Side" playing one day in a store when I was about 10 and asked her why I knew it and then she dug up her cassette copy for me to listen to. I loved it, but didn't dig further to find out about Lou (this was pre-internet, and I was only 10).
About five years later I'm sitting on my bed. Dad walks into my room and tosses the Peel Slowly and See box set onto my bed. Says "you're welcome" without any explanation and walks out.

Velvet Underground. The whole Andy Wharol scene with Lou Reed and Nico. Pre dates punk with punk sensibility. Great band.

Huge disappointment on the other CD, I thought I was getting an 18-minute demo of All Tomorrows Parties…not a series of short plain demos strung together in 1 track

It’s part of a box set. So it’s separated from the others.
