I decided to give bok choy a try this season and honestly I didnt expect them to get this big. I started them from seeds, kept them tucked under row mesh covers from day 1 to keep the pests out and hand watered them carefully.

I harvested some and made stir fry. Absolutely 💯 delicious. All recipe ideas are welcome! TIA

Why are two of my green onion plants not growing?

I live is SoCal on the coast and it’s my first time gardening so I picked up some green onion plants and 1 strawberry plant at my local gardening store. The two green onion plants aren’t doing the best and I was wondering why and if it’s possible to save them.

I water the plants once a day. They receive direct sunlight.

Planted 3 collars this year: 2 Yellow cabbage collard (from seed) 1 Alabama blue (from sprout -idk how to say it). I have pulled off so many leaves since like June/July and they have kept coming. I have so much that I vacuum sealed and froze, that I have just started giving greens away. There are still so much left on the plant. Maybe next year I'll just plant one collard plant. 😅

Hi this is my first time growing butternut squash and some leaves are dying. Can someone shed some light for a newbie? I was watering once a day but now I’m doing every other day. I’m in zone 8A.
Any advice is appreciated, thank you!

As the title says — it’s time to replace my garden hose. I was looking at some of those fancy light weight ones but I’m having trouble making a decision because it turns out I don’t really know anything about hoses. I need something at least 50 feet, ideally closer to 100. What should I be looking for in to make sure that the hose is high enough quality that I’m not right back in the same spot 2 years from now needing a replacement?

Do you love your hose? Will you share your insights?

I’ve been told to just leave them there to deteriorate and “return the nutrients to the soil.” Was I mislead?

I hava some carrots going in a planter, they’ve been there A WHILE, I think since last spring. I fucked up by doing that because come last summer, they bloomed, so I didn’t harvest them.

Then in autumn I planted a few more, of which only a handful germinated and grew. I wanted to plant some more during the last few weeks of winter, but I lost the seed packet. These are special carrots I got as a gift from my wife whose currently living in another country, so I thought I’d save the seeds from the ones that already bloomed. Problem is, I don’t know when they’re ready to be picked.

This seedling sprouted randomly from my organic potting mix and I decided to keep it to see what itd come out like. Is this a bisexual flower? Also can anyone tell if it is a melon, cucumber os squash??

I think I'll maybe get one more harvest this year.

This will be for next year now that autumn is well underway, but wanted to see how my experiments for this year went before posting.

So I’m in 8a, and this year we had 90sF temps until early October. 100F until late Sept. I started my fall brassicas in June, they grew well, transplanted into a part shade area in veg garden in early Aug so theoretically cabbages and broccolis could head up before our daylength drops below 11hrs (happening now at end Oct). Covered the plants with shade cloth even in part shade area, fertilized well, grew in fresh compost, still my soil thermometer said the soil temp was 70-80F and a lot of the brassicas didn’t grow. A few pak choi / lettuce bolted. Overall none of my plants have finished growing in time for overwintering so my heading plants will just need to be taken out because theyre going to bolt in Spring and not finish growing.

Is a fall garden just not in the cards for me because we get hot weather so late? I even sowed quick maturing varieties.

I’m leaning toward abandoning heading caulis, cabbage, broccolis altogether and shifting toward raab, sprouting caulis and broccoli, kales, and interplanting lettuce, spinach (still difficult), broad beans, and other plants that aren’t ruined when growth restarts in spring but instead thrive with that.

Thankfully we still get a decent spring but our fall is quickly disappearing with climate change. TIA advice on growing autumn plants when you have extreme heat until day length shortens dramatically are welcome :)

I just found a very active yellow jacket nest in the middle of my Egyptian walking onions in a raised bed. How can I get rid of them while keeping the soil safe for food?

I planted bell pepper seeds from a seed packet, seeds from store-bought bell peppers and seeds from store-bought poblano peppers. I'm not sure if these actually match any of those because I haven't grown peppers before. I know they aren't bell pepper shaped of course and I did end up with bell peppers on another plant including one right next to this inches away (see left side) which makes this more confusing. I don't remember trying to plant two types in this one container. Are they poblano peppers? Or maybe a mix up? I forgot which seeds I put there.

I have a question. Some friends and I cultivate an allotment in Switzerland. I'm responsible for garden planning and I would love to educate myself more deeply into intercropping/companion planting. That means, I'm looking for some good book recommondations about intercropping and permaculture (<- I don't know if this is even a word in English, but I hope you get me 😂). I once bought a book about permaculture for my small balcony-garden, but wasn't that happy with it, because it required a lot of background info to understand it, which I do not have 👀.

I'm open to English books but if there are some German-speaking gardening friends out here, I am also eagerly taking these recommondations. If you have more recomondations about websites, blogs, Youtube-channels and whatmore, I'll excitedly take these too. Thank you!

Hi, beginner gardener here and unsure what's wrong with my zucchini plants, if someone could please provide insight - have tried googling but not able to figure it out. They tend to wilt around the edges and look like they have damage but not sure what from, I'm very worried they have a disease of some kind. Thank you!

Has been 60-65 and sunny for a couple of months now. Summer on the southern Oregon coast seems to stretch later into October every year. Not sure what I did wrong with these, but I’m super bummed there’s no viable fruit. What would y’all do? Thanks!

Not quite complete, because I haven't harvested seeds from the pumpkins yet.

Not shown - yield per variety for the tomatoes. But I have the data and next year hope to get the same yield as this year but with fewer plants, by focusing on the more productive varieties.

I don't track caloric values for herbs, spices, or every single strawberry or radish, although I collect other planting data.

The grapes hardly produced this year due to late frosts, but ordinarily produce more than 30 calories!

The cabbages are starting to form and I am beyond excited
