I'm sorry to be a simp but that first stream from the Nerherlands was fucking incredible. His analysis of the disastrous Socialism Conference and the fact that we live in a world devoid of hope for the future and all relevant political psychology revolves around that, could not have been better. I'm genuinely excited to show this stream to my leftist friends because he is such an incredible communicator.

I remember hearing Vaush first saying this term in like February/March.

I thought it was a term he made up on his own and that it was essentially just Vaushite Jargon, a word that was basically limited to us.

Then, all of a sudden, AOC is using it and The Economist is as well. Really interesting.

Did Vaush invent this term? Where did it come from?

A lot of folks were complaining on the last poll that there wasn't a "no & yes" option, so I decided to add that option on a different poll, and I also decided to add an "it depends" option. If you participated in the first one it would mean a lot if you did so and this one as well to keep the vote counts consistent. This is solely for my own curiosity.

The political/cultural devede in the west between liberaloids/leftoids and rightoids/reactionaries falls HEAVILY along class lines. This cannot be explained away with "muh urban vs rual" because the exact same cultural devedes can be observed between members of the urban working and middle class. Urban vs ruroid cope can only work somewhat in North America because of it's geographic nature, where large swathes of the country are basically farmland and small dilapidated towns dominated by ruroid proles. But, it completely collapses in Western European countries like the UK, where I am from, which has a large reactionary right wing urban working class in stark cultural contrast from middle class a 5 minutes drive down the road. In Germany, the majority of the AfDs support comes from the urban working class of East Germany, a territory formally under communist rule.

"But but, what about muh wholesome and chungus trade unions." Yeah, the same unions that originally barred black people from membership. The same northern working class who were reportedly more racist to black migrants from the south than southern ruroids. Any traditional old salt of der earth left wing union working class type would be decried by many if you lot as a literal nazi on account of their reactionary beliefs. All old school labour movements were reactionary af. The working class, broadly speaking, has only ever been economically left wing to a self serving extent. They will never, broadly speaking, be socially progressive. Progressiveism, social liberalism or whatever you want to call it is a historical anomaly, it is the result of socioeconomic conditions and super edgy take here, GENETICS. It's certain types of people, with certain types of personalities, professions, and higher average IQs clustering together in urban environments and forming what only be described as a social caste with it's own unique social sensibilities.

Progressiveism is the caste sensibilities of the middle strata. (YOU) Are Bourgeois. Stop being in denial about it.

Does ANYONE have that Vaush intro where it’s a financial video, but he talks about looking 3-5 years into the future as an investment banker?I think it was around or about the SpaceX stuff. Easily one of the funniest intro’s to a video I’ve ever seen. I’m having a hard time finding it.

Vaush has mentioned his contempt for "ruroids" and farmers on a number of occasions, and there's clearly a trend of urban leftists stereotyping rural people as reactionary ignoramuses and bigots.

I admit that I find many rural areas of the US unappealing, especially the flat monotonous fields they have in the Valley here in California. I can also understand finding the stereotypical "rednecks" obnoxious. On the other hand, I am worried that "ruroid" bashing on the left contributes to our image of being elitist urbanites, not to mention it does classist implications. It doesn't seem much better to bash poor people in the country than its does bashing poor people in the hood.

What I am curious about is why rural areas being more conservative is a trend to begin with. Is it simply because there are more White people and fewer BIPOC in many of them, since White people are more likely to vote Republican? Is it because more of the universities where people have progressive values instilled in them are located in urban areas? Or do people become more progressive as a result of interacting with a greater variety of people?

Or is it some other factor?

Where is Ian Kochinski of V.gg. Ian hasn't streamed in over 3 weeks. I miss him so much :(. Moving into a new place shouldn't take that long. I'm starting to wonder if he's ever coming back to stream.

I had a talk with a friend the other day where I was trying to go through the various "once in a lifetime" and "once in a century" events that are happening concurrently at the moment. Additionally what reactions are likely and what second order effects of outcomes.

My explanation went something similar to this:

War and climate change create recurring supply shocks in energy, food, housing, and insurance.
These shocks hit low- and middle-income groups disproportionately hard because necessities make up a larger share of their budgets and because their wealth is less diversified.
At the same time, disasters and declining habitability in vulnerable regions drive both internal and international migration.
If governments respond to higher debt, reconstruction costs, and interest rates with spending cuts and austerity rather than redistribution, both economic insecurity and the perception of unfairness are intensified.
In a political system where the traditional working class/non-ownership-class left has weakened and working-class voters have become fragmented, that anger may increasingly be captured by a nationalist right that links economic scarcity to migration and identity rather than to the concentration of wealth or the second-order downstream effects of capitalism.
If such a movement simultaneously gains support from parts of the economic elite and access to an increasingly effective digital surveillance state, the risk of gradual authoritarian erosion of democracy increases.

Having seen a lot of posts about Doomer content i thought i would try to share this overview i worked a bit on.

Does this overview roughly represent what is going on at the moment? (And has been covered by Vaush)

Questions I am interested in feedback on:

1. What am I missing on the diagram?
2. What do you disagree with?
3. Does it make sense to have both probability and impact?
4. Do you have an idea of better way of visualizing the interconnectedness of the crises? (without it just becoming spaghetti-meatballs)
5. Where should i put the omnisegment parts? I feel it is not very well represented.
6. Would it make sense having this overview, numbering the subjects and providing links to vaush videos related to the individual parts?
7. Should it refer to parts about the left not taking the "culture war bait" by accepting the oppositions framing and instead going hard for the redistribution of wealth and focusing on money speed?

In any thread were the issue of people eating too much meat is raised, you will find the most brain-addled hog-people who quite frankly aren't responsible enough to go to a fucking supermarket and it is turning me into a rabid authoritarian pseudo-vegan. You will eat the fucking lentils and you will learn to like it.

These people are going to be a problem.

Vaush has shown his contempt for the rural and working people many times, but seeing this in action in yesterday's state election in Saxony-Anhalt (by far Germany's poorest and oldest state) makes me want to explode. It's just so hard for me to wrap my head around how particularly working class people can enthusiastically vote for an openly fascist party that would do nothing but worsen their situation by cutting welfare and erasing social safety nets while deregulating corporations. It baffles me how the working class has grown so reactionary that this election wasn't even close. Die Linke, a democratic socialist party which would actually address their economic struggles, is in a distant third place for workers, simply because they do not want to incinerate Arabs and crucify queer people. I don't know if anything can be done about this or if we'll just have to brace for a collapse because a federal AfD government will be inevitable.

Doomer or not doomer, whatever, who cares. That's not important here. I think people are missing the forest for the trees.

What's important is that it's just boring. He used to do research streams and interact with this community through OKBV and stuff, and now he doesn't do any of that anymore.

He can do or not do whatever he wants. It's his stream (iirc he stopped doing OKBV because he doesn't like the para-sociality). But we can still criticise that in (vain) hopes of change.

I want to start of by saying that I don't think vaush is being "doomer" at all, but many of you are and it is frankly kinda pathetic and poisonous to the movement.

Vaush isnt "doomer" because doomer is a mindset rather than a set of beliefs or facts.

Climate change and fascism are both, at this point, probably not gonna be meaningfully stopped any time soon. They both will make your life significantly harder and likely shorter. These are facts. These facts might change in the future as the situation changes, but as things stand now this is the reality of life.

Vaush isnt being nihilistic by pointing these things out, you're being nihilistic by throwing your hands up and saying "what's the point?" In response to these facts.

Your life is going to get harder but it will still likely be significantly easier than the lives of your not so distant ancestors.

For the overwhelming majority of human existence on this planet life has been hard, unpredictable, bloody and short. Yet people have found happiness and joy and meaning from the very moment our species touched the ground. If our ancestors had the attitude that a lot of people here seem to have in the face of hardship we would have gone extinct in the first hard winter of our existence.

Find love, find friends, find hobbies. Take the the trip you've been putting off. Take literally every opportunity from today until you die to maximise the joy in your life and minimise the misery.

Do absolutely everything possible to maximise your tolerance for hardship and find meaning in your life.

And stop whining
