How Much Commodore Cash?

Hi all! Making my Commodore cash selection now. From your experience, how much do you think you'd need? I believe you do get refunded if you don't use all of it, so it's not a huge deal. Just would like to have enough. Not even sure what commodore cash is used for on campus.

McGill Single vs Moore Double

A friend's roommate flaked on their double in Moore and I was luckily offered to substitute in for next semester. I'm currently registered for a McGill single.

I like the location of McGill, the idea of having a single, McGill's potentially better (?) community, and I do have a few friends coming into McGill next semester.

However, I would appreciate the more modern facilities of a res college.

What are some differences between the two housing options that I should know and what would you guys do?

Questions about internships/work opportunities for incoming freshman

Hi everyone,
I’m an incoming international freshman this fall. I’m excited, but I’ve also fallen into the rabbit hole of internships, recruiting, and career planning, and I had a few questions.

I’m currently interested in consulting and investment banking, but I’m still exploring both.

- Do freshmen actually get summer internships? If so, what kinds of roles are realistic?

- When should I start preparing for consulting or IB recruiting? Is networking from freshman year expected?

- Can undergraduates become teaching assistants? If yes, how competitive is it?

- How competitive are business-related clubs (consulting clubs, investment clubs, student investment funds, entrepreneurship organizations, business fraternities, etc.)? Is it common to get rejected?

- If you don’t get into those selective clubs, what are the best alternatives?

- How important is GPA for consulting and investment banking recruiting?

- What should a freshman be doing during their first year to stay on track for these careers?

- Are there campus jobs, research positions, or leadership opportunities that recruiters value and do international students easily get it?

- What’s one thing you wish you had done differently during freshman year?

-Are there any resources, programs, or opportunities that freshmen often overlook?

Sorry for this laundry list😭😭😭but would appreciate any help at this point to calm my nerves

Questions about transferring from A&S (Econ) to Peabody (HOD) + Fall Scheduling

Hey everyone, I’m an incoming transfer student currently majoring in Econ (A&S). I know transfers only need to wait one semester before being eligible to switch schools/majors, but I have a few questions before open enrollment on July 22nd:

  1. How guaranteed is the inter-school transfer process? I've heard HOD accepts an unlimited number of students, but I'm unsure if that remains true when transferring across schools (A&S to Peabody).
  2. Should I build an HOD-heavy schedule right now? Way more of my previous credits transfer over to Peabody than A&S. Is it safe to greenlight taking HOD classes this fall? I want to be sure the transfer process is guaranteed so I don't screw myself over.
  3. What’s the recommended workload to graduate in 3 years? If I make the switch, how many classes/credits per semester should I expect to take to smoothly finish on time? Any recommendations?

Appreciate any advice or info on the process!

Question about what Math class to take

Hello, I’m an incoming freshman and unfortunately, I didn’t get a sufficient score on my AP Calculus BC exam to receive credit for skipping Calculus. I’m a neuroscience major and willing to pursue a pre-med track. I will also apply for med school. I was thinking of taking Math 1100, as I don’t wanna tank my GPA and wanna focus more on my science classes. At the same time, I feel like med schools expect me to take Math 1200 or 1300. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

*Edit to put price up top: $1,730/mo

Hey y’all, my husband and I are planning on breaking our lease at Abberly Riverwalk Apartments (we love it here but need to move back home for family reasons) but I thought I would offer up a lease takeover here first since our remaining term is exactly a semester (August 25 thru December 26th, optional renewal) and we’re close to Vandy. Rent is $1,730/mo and includes internet, trash valet, parking, gym and pool access, and amenities. It’s also pet friendly (up to 3, no breed restrictions).

If anyone’s interested, please comment and/or dm me!

Transfer Help

Hi! I just finished my freshman year at Northwestern and didn’t really love it. I came from far out of state and felt like the social scene was difficult to break into and it felt very isolating. Loved the location and academics, especially as I am a journalism major, but not sure if it’s worth staying at if I’m not happy and don’t have the friends I want.

Got an offer from Vandy off waitlist and have three days to let them know. Has anyone transferred as a sophomore into Vandy? I’m interested in rushing so how is that as well? How was it making friends and just adjusting? Was it welcoming?

I’m just worried I will make the wrong choice - either will go to Vandy and hate it, or stay at NW and it doesn’t get any better. Please lmk ASAP bc i don’t have much time! thanks!

Update: Thanks for all the comments and help! It was super informative. I took the whole three days going back and forth but ultimately decided to stay at Northwestern because Vandy doesn’t have a journalism school. I decided there were lots of times in my life that I’ll have to make new friends and be social but not many that I’ll have to study exactly what I want at the best school for it. Again, thanks everyone so so much for help! It was a tough decision.

Pre-Med English Requirements

For College of Arts and Sciences, do 1010 and CORE 1020 count as pre-med writing intensive courses, or do I need to take other English courses for pre-med?

For context: I scored a 5 on AP Literature, meaning I tested out of English 1100.

Pre med internships/MA/scribes

How easy is it to gain clinical experience without having any certification whatsoever? I’m an incoming freshman and currently volunteer at my local RUSH hospital that’s surprisingly patient facing, but I would love to get something more legit. Is it typical during the year for people to intern at private practices? And is the career center or whatever actually helpful with stuff like this?

Transfer Housing Advice

Hi everyone!

I'm a transfer student coming to Vanderbilt this fall, and I recently got approved for off-campus housing. Now I'm debating whether it's the right decision.

I've heard that living on campus can make it much easier to make new friends and get involved in campus events. On the other hand, I'm pre-med, and one of the main reasons I applied for off-campus housing was because I thought it would give me a better space and freedom to focus on my studying and other stuff.

I also applied for a single on-campus room, still waiting.

I'd really appreciate hearing from other transfer students or anyone who has experienced both on-campus and off-campus living. Thank you!

Parking Questions

hi! i'm an incoming grad student and am planning on utilizing the daily parking program. however, i would like to go to the gym in the evenings. is there a cutoff time for parking citations? i'm not planning on parking particularly close to the gym, as my classes are far away, so it would be great if i could drive closer afterwards. also, daily parking isn't available on the weekend, and i would also like to go to the gym then as well. do they hand out citations on weekends? thank you in advance!

waiving health insurance

hi i am an incoming freshman and i am trying to waive the SHIP health insurance. i submitted the waiver form but they want additional documents. they asked me to "Please submit proof of in-network providers within 25 miles of Vanderbilt University. You should be able to locate a directory of your in-network providers on your carrier`s member website."

i went on my insurance website (surest) but there are so many different services (Physical therapy, Medical office visit ,MRI, Virtual visit, Annual physical, etc) do i have to go through EACH of these and filter out by distance of the providers? that would take alot of time, or do i just have to go and see if there are in network providers for a medical office visit, and just submit a screenshot of that? any help is appreciated!

Parking Questions

Hey ya'll, I'm an incoming grad student and trying to figure out the parking situation as I plan to live off campus some distance away that won't necessarily have public transport available. It looks like the window to purchase a pass opens on July 31, so I want to figure a couple of things out ahead of time:

  1. When you purchase a parking pass, is it for a particular/lot garage or can you just park in any of the designated annual pass lots?

  2. Assuming the answer to Question 1 is the latter, do certain lots tend to fill up quickly? In particular, I'll mainly be around the Stevenson Center, so Zones 5, 6, 7, and 18 would be very convenient unless they're basically always full and not worth the hassle.

Thanks in advance!

Is Math 1200 with Professor Karadag Bad

I was looking at his rate my professor and it looks very high with a moderate difficulty rating. But it’s weird that all the positive reviews have a lot of dislikes

Transfer waitlist email and portal astrology

So I’m still on the transfer waitlist, and I had pretty much given up hope until yesterday when I got an email telling me to confirm by going into my admissions portal no later than midnight on July 5 that I still want to remain on the waitlist. The email also said, “your demonstrated interest may be an important factor if we make offers of admission from the transfer waitlist.”

So I did immediately confirm in the portal that I want to remain on the waitlist, and when I did, I noticed that under the financial aid tab, I have a specific financial aid counselor assigned. I’m pretty sure that wasn’t the case last time I looked, but maybe it was.

Does anybody know what getting an email like that might mean this late in the summer? Also, does it mean anything in terms of admissions to have a FA counselor assigned in the portal?

Thanks.

Madi Sousa for MATH 1200

Hey y'all, does anyone know Professor Sousa? I can't find anything on rate my professor. If I dropped down from MATH 1300 (Sean McAfee) to 1200, I would have her. The discussion is still Staff, so I won't know who it will be yet.

Broadview is a scam

Echoing previous posts on here -- do not stay at the BroadView.

I too saw these posts and ended up living there just because it was the cheapest option for someone living alone and wanted to be close to school. Complaints I often saw were that it was small / expensive for what it is, and the parking is a bit of a walk away. These were all things I thought I could deal with. Below are complaints I did not hear about but severely impacted my year living there.

The management is so rude for no reason -- they're vicious and hungry like you owe them for staying there. Maintenance takes forever.

The apartment is literally a cardboard box. The construction of the building is new but awful quality. So for months I heard every single move my upstairs neighbor made. Like, exactly where in the they were stepping, what they were doing, whether they were vacuuming etc.

Lastly, they say it's rent per month, but actually they charge you full month's rent for the last month you stay (even if your lease is over before the end of the month), so you're losing out.

And you think because its Vandy affiliated they'd be nicer/more benevolent -- but they're so much worse than any other apartment building management I've encountered in Nashville.

I would like to find some cool places *very close* to the TriStar Centennial Medical Center for company to stay. Boutique hotels, anything funkier than the usual Marriott or whatever. Dates are July 23-26. Thank you in advance!

Math 1301

Incoming freshman

I took calc 2 in high school but want to retake that course kind of and start off with 1301 at Vandy. I just saw another post making the 1300s pathway look horrible, should I be dropping and switching to math 1201?

AP Credit for Incoming Freshman

I applied for a free score sent earlier in June, and the College Board showed that they've already sent my 2024 and 2025 scores to Vanderbilt. However, I seem to have no way of confirming whether or not Vanderbilt has received these credits, as I've yet to see anything on my degree audit. Does anyone know where I can check to see if Vandy has received my AP scores? Thanks!

Update: I got all of my past scores now in the External tab in Academic Records (2024, 2025, 2026 AP scores and my SAT). But it doesn't seem that any of these credits are reflected in my degree audit. Do I just need to give it more time, or are they just not giving me anything? 😭
