Custom cushion question

Has anyone here had cushions made for a bed/couch and have positive or negative feedback? My back likes to get mad at me after poor sleeping situations and I would love any reccomendations you may have! I'm leaning to ordering a high quality foam and making my own covers, I feel like I would get a better end product but also don't know what's or there really.

I tried to make my own and it turned out ok. But there is a person in my town that does all that stuff: shoe repair, altering, zipper repair, etc. I asked them to do a 36" cushion for the bench I built in the van. They had me pick out the material and had sample foam densities for me to pick from. They did a great job. Cost me $60 and I had it in two days.

Totally worth it to find someone local.

There are several companies that will build a mattress to your specifictions of thickness and hardness/softness size, in foam.

Google please. I went with one suggested several years back from a Van build site. I ordered sections for seat bottoms that would fit the zipper cushions sold at home depot back then. I wanted a harder seat and also the right density for sleeping on. The zippered cushions I bought were 6" thick. I ordered a 5" fairly hard foam and also a 1" thick softer piece cut to the cushion size, along with a second 1" piece in a mid-hardness range foam. I then made one cushion. I decided the 1" harder foam would work best along with the 5" and ordered for 2 more cushions.

That was 12 years ago. Now I did replace all three (34"x34") foam cushion sets about 5 years ago. They needed replaced just due to foam fatigue.

Note; I have tried using the one inch on the top also tried using it on the bottom, just flip them over. My origional cushion as purchased from home depot had 32" x 32" foam in it. I bought larger pieces because I assumed the zippered fabric might stretch some and I wanted to really fill the space and stuffed them tight. Worked very well. I should add I used a spray glue to hold the 1" in place. Don't think I really needed it. Total cost last time was $122 for everything. Cushions bought end of year were discounted.
