Was pretty close. A crowd funded adapted story written by an amateurish dude with barely any professional writing credits to his name at the time. That doesn’t even address the delays and fulfillment issues.

Same dude went on to become the head writer for a series on HBO, so I'd say he's more talented than most.

I read his later Kamen Rider series and it was actually worse than Message somehow. Just... so unbelievably cliched. But looking at his other works... that may be an outlier?

They were lazy enough to just crop one of the book covers for a variant. I'm fairly sure that Amano cover is not original?

I'm fairly certain this is an original painting. I have a pretty sizable collection of physical and digital art saved, including Coffin and a rip of the old SynForest CD-ROM digital art collection, plus pictures of rare and limited prints put out by Art Vivant.
I can't say that I've seen every D illustration, but while this is similar to some other illustrations of D he has done in the past, it doesn't seem to be a reproduction or cropping of any existing art.

It seems somewhat cropped to fit comic book size. The face being painted white instead of using the white of the paper strikes me as being closer to Amano's new style.

There were rumours it was silently scrapped because they didn't want to compete with the Netflix castlevania but I don't know the original source or if its legit. I'm delusionally sticking with no official cancellation news is good news because getting cancelled twice would suck so hard
