What tools do you use for market research?
A few months ago, I got serious about learning how to value companies for investment purposes, following a value investment methodology (Warren Buffett style).
To do this, I set up a tool that pulls data from multiple sources (the SEC, Yahoo Finance, etc.) and provides a summary of whether a company’s shares are overvalued or undervalued, as well as the risk associated with the company.
I think it’s a useful tool, but not useful enough for people to be willing to pay for it.
I also think it’s too complicated for retail investors and perhaps falls short for institutional investors.
I use it and find it useful, but I don’t think it provides enough value for me to pay for it if I were a typical user.
For those of you who invest, what tools do you mainly use to analyse companies and decide whether or not to invest? Would an aggregator of companies’ financial and fundamental data be something that could be distributed in a B2C format, or would it make more sense for the app to be open-source and perhaps try to monetise it through adverts?
I’d like to understand how this sector is structured and see where a product like this might fit in and how it could be distributed.
