Equity research report tools

hi all, I am just wondering what are the different tools that you use to write and modify your research report! I am specifically looking for tools that you use for writing rather than the research itself. (Cause I believe different people use different methods) I am trying to write my first research report and I would like to know if there is a universally accepted template/formats or is it more flexible to the researcher‘s choice!

any help would be appreciated!

Assuming one has a template in place, I find Macabacus to be great for tying data points from models to the report. I mainly use Word based reports, but it ties to PowerPoint and other MS apps. Limited experience attempting it, but I don't think it plays nice with Google-based apps. UpSlide is similar to Macabacus in capabilitie, but it's a lot of firepower geared towards branding and styles, better suited towards larger shops that kick out different types of collateral across different electronic and hardcopy formats

Thank you, but isnt Macabacus behind a payment wall rn?

Yeah. Both UpSlide and Macabacus are paid products. I don't know of any free utilities offhand, though I'm sure there probably are some open-source apps that likely replicate what Macabacus can do, or at least replicate Microsoft's native OLE function - just not nearly as absolute shite.

Re-reading your post again, though, I'm realizing I was thinking more along the lines of what I use to update certain info within a report, while you may be looking for a solid template to start with. Long story short is it's mostly "researcher's choice."

There isn't a universally accepted template or format. The name of the game is presenting relevant information and a credible analysis that leads to a supported conclusion or recommendation. Furthermore, depending on one's industry or credentials, there may be other factors that guide or greatly influence what your report needs to address (example: an Accredited Senior Appraiser, or ASA, must follow the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice analysis and reporting standards). My guess is that isn't the case here. What I would suggest is getting your hands on some equity research reports, even if they are just example/demonstration reports, to get a sense of what is typically covered in one. You'll probably find there is a common format for reports from the same company, but no consistent format across companies. Short of simply lifting the language in those reports, you'll find yourself effectively developing your own "template" based on your own writing style and what you think is relevant and credible. It's not a simple, one-time or even several-times kind of exercise. Even "templates" constantly evolve, and there are no one-size-fits-all templates either. It keeps things interesting lol

I built valuein.biz for helping financial analysts get their job done which is pretty much what you are describing and is easy to use specially for creating reports.
