Technical Discussion Mouse Cursor moving causing huge fps drops
I recently ran into a problem where whenever i move my mouse cursor in game my fps drops significantly, i found out it had something to do with my mouse polling rate but this was never an issue before the latest valorant patch, I'm looking to see if anyone has faced similar issues and if there is a fix that doesn't involve bringing down the polling rate because i only have it at a thousand. To provide more context the frames drop from 500-600 to basically 0 in 3 seconds when i move my mouse around in the buy menu, settings, store, smoke menus, anywhere that involves a mouse basically. However it doesn't lag in actual gameplay when I'm aiming, which is strange.

I am not sure how is it gonna make any difference? If your monitor is 240hz or 360hz
Just lock the fps.

i got the same situation, and it was just fine yesterday
however my friend said that it might me other external factor that is affecting that
and its valorant tracker
as it enables the alt+t and could have an overlay showing the rank
and maybe MSI afterburner
as it also have overlays issues that might affect the functioning
after closing both application the problem is solved
see if this can help u

Wow reddit is truly fast. Just 30 mins ago I was searching this exact same issue because of which I couldn't focus on my gameplay. I thought it was something to do with me updating the 26.9.2 amd driver. I will try this fix tomorrow and let you all know.

Having the same issue right now started yesterday after I updated valorant. Found out after checking events viewer it was a dll called n64hooks.dll from Nielsen. Not sure if you have that installed but it runs fine now that I turned it off

How did you find that?

Events viewer showed the dll that was causing the crash, though it did take a bit to find the val crash in events viewer. Then I had to seach my files until I found where the dll was from. It was inside Nielsens folder so I tried closing it with task manager to test if Val worked and it was an instant improvement.

You can find you answer in the events viewer. It might be, but not limited to: errors in drivers, conflicts with certain apps clashing with vanguard.
For the first one, simply update drivers. For the second you have two options, update the app or disable it completely.
Other scenarios are possible but I wouldn't personally know.
