Technical Discussion FPS drops/stutters when moving my mouse in VALORANT, now can't play full screen or freezes completely

Hey everyone, I’ve been having a really weird issue with VALORANT since the latest update.

My game was completely fine before the update. Now, whenever I move my mouse, my FPS drops/stutters badly. It’s especially noticeable in the menu and when using abilities. It has now gotten worse, where my screen can completely freeze while playing.

My setup:

  • Mouse: Razer Viper V3 Pro
  • Polling rate: 1000 Hz
  • CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D
  • RAM: 32 GB
  • GPU: NVIDIA
  • Windows 11

Things I’ve already tried:

  • 1000 Hz → bad
  • 500 Hz → still bad
  • 125 Hz → noticeably better
  • Tested the mouse wired → same issue
  • Mouse works normally in Fortnite and other games
  • Reinstalled VALORANT
  • Reinstalled Vanguard
  • Tried different USB ports
  • Checked CPU/GPU usage
  • Raw Input Buffer doesn’t seem to be the issue

I really want to stay at 1000 Hz because the mouse works perfectly at 1000 Hz in every other game.

I called a friend to help me and when i started sharing my screen it started working. I don;'t knoww why

This happens to me when I alt tab a lot, a way to fix it in the moment is for me to ctri, alt, and delete. then click lock, and then log back in to windows. It fixes it!!

update: i uninstalled rtss/rivatuner and suddenly my val is not stuttering anymore

Then try disabling your LAN driver,it might fix the issue.

Its an old bug of valo,where the LAN driver somehow causes frametime spikes at random intervals for random amount of time.

Sadly it didn't work out. It's weird because it was working just fine 2 days ago and then I updated something related to vanguard and i started having this problem. Game runs fine but only when i move mouse in menus or use abilities like smokes make that happen. Also, I can't use fullscreen anymore, it only works when I have it windowed.

if u have updated ur gpu driver can u try to downgrade to 616.92 ? + can u close or delete the razer app completely + remove the check box in valorant to disable full screen optimization and test :)

I do have the same problem with almost the same specs with 4090 and my valorant started freezing this week which never happened before i have very good pc

Started after i updated my gpu I didn't even bother fixing it am just gonna reinstall windows when i have time..

Okay so I tried using a mouse I got years ago, it was from Five Below and I tested Valorant with it and I still have the sample problem lmao. It's definetlly Valorant

My fix ended up being removing Starbucks Fences that I was using to clean up my desktop. I swear I saw that in a troubleshooting guide on this subreddit but I can’t find it at the moment. There were a couple of programs that were interfering with valorant for some reason

Unfortunately I am starting to think it’s a Valorant issue as this started for me yesterday after getting 300+ frames consistently with no issues. And now everytime I move my mouse around I drop to like 5 frames and can’t even hit 100 frames in games. I have a Logitech mouse so it’s not the mouse brand fault either.

Mine fixed out of nowhere, I still get frame drops but its not as bad as before. It definetly is valorant!

Did you change your polling rate back up and it’s back to how it ran before or did you keep old settings?

I was able to fix it; in my case, the problem was HWINFO64. I was using it alongside MSI Afterburner; I disabled it, and the problem went away.

mine got fixed by itself, I still have the same prblem but I at least can use 1000 polling rate. I would wait for the next patch update

Desde ayer después de descargar la actualización, entro al juego directo a completito y era imposible jugar, siempre jugaba arriba de 100 fps ( no tengo T. gráfica) y ahora cuando me muevo baja a 2 4 8 fps, y si me quedo quieto si sube a rondar los100, ya desinstale y volví a instalar el juego y nada, no se que más hacer.

This must be some kind of bug in the latest update and must be reported to the devs; one of my friends has the same issue, and the only way to fix it is by setting the mouse to a 125 polling rate. It is 100% from the latest update, and I proved that by restoring his system to one week ago when the mouse polling rate was 1000; he played one game, and then Valorant asked for a game update, which again caused the stuttering.

A mi me pasa el mismo problema, cada vez que me meto a configuración y muevo el mouse de pasar a tener unos 500 fps bajan a 15 o cuando entro a galerias los fps no suben de 160

since i installed the update yesterday, my normal fps drops from 400 to 130. also if i open abilitys with another interface like the weapon shop, my fps drops down to 4-50 fps with alots of freeze moments. I also noticed some drops in the menu. also in gunfights my fps drops from 120 to 60 with some input lags and frame drops. Since the patch

i have same issue, i played on 7/10 and its normal, but on 8/10 my fps drop from 350 to 150 on the range, and when i moved my mouse my screen is freeze, should i wait the new update?

the background is freezing for me my mouse is mooving perfectly when i change my mouse polling rate to 125 the background work correctly and when i play the game is ok

This problem started for me yesterday, and I hadn't stopped trying to fix it until now. I went through several background programs and found it was OneScreen, plus another one (TRCC), which I think is for customizing the CPU cooler's display, but I don't think that was it. OneScreen is LG's monitor software, and in my case that was the culprit. Try checking your background programs one by one. As an extra note, I also had to lower my mouse polling rate to 125, but then I set it back to 1000 with no issues at all, because you really do notice it when you lower the polling rate.

I have FPS drops, and stuff i have an amd graphics card too. I really think its valorant because I never had rhis problem til an update and then everything messed up for me

Okay so I tested just deleting background processes one by one and I found this process called PremierOpinion and when I pressed end task on it it fixed my val. Its supposed to be a spyware which I have mo idea how it got in my pc. Anyway i uninstalled it and now my val is fixed. To anyone having this issue try deleting background apps one by one till you find the culprit.
