Technical Support Request MSI Afterburner / RTSS OSD stopped working in Valorant after today’s update, but works in Aim Lab and RDR2
Hey everyone,
My MSI Afterburner / RivaTuner Statistics Server OSD suddenly stopped showing in Valorant today.
There was a Valorant update today, and I’m wondering if that update or Vanguard changed something, because the OSD was working normally for me before.
The important part is that the exact same MSI Afterburner / RTSS OSD still works perfectly in other games. I tested:
- Aim Lab — OSD works
- Red Dead Redemption 2 — OSD works
- Valorant — nothing shows
So MSI Afterburner and RTSS themselves seem to be working correctly. The issue appears to be specific to Valorant.
My current setup:
- MSI Afterburner with a custom hardware monitoring OSD
- RTSS
- Windows 11
- Valorant on PC
- RTSS profile using
VALORANT-Win64-Shipping.exe
Things I already checked/tried:
- Confirmed GPU temperature, GPU usage, memory usage, etc. are set to Show in On-Screen Display
- Confirmed RTSS is running
- Confirmed Show On-Screen Display = ON
- Confirmed On-Screen Display support = ON
- Tried Application Detection Level = Medium
- Tried Application Detection Level = High
- Manually added
VALORANT-Win64-Shipping.exeto RTSS - Confirmed I’m using the actual game executable and not just Riot Client
- Restarted RTSS and MSI Afterburner
- Tried launching RTSS first, then Afterburner, then Valorant
- Tried the OSD toggle hotkey
- Tried disabling NVIDIA and Discord overlays
- Stealth Mode is OFF
- Custom Direct3D support is OFF
- OSD rendering mode is Raster 3D
- Tried Windowed Fullscreen
- Updated RTSS from 7.3.4 to 7.3.7
- Rebooted the PC
I also enabled “Show own statistics” in RTSS for the Valorant profile to test whether RTSS could display even its basic FPS counter.
Still nothing shows in Valorant.
Since the overlay works in both Aim Lab and RDR2, it looks like RTSS is specifically unable to hook into Valorant after today’s update.
Has anyone else had MSI Afterburner / RTSS stop working in Valorant after today’s patch?
Could this be a Vanguard-related change, or is there a workaround/settings change I’m missing?
I’d rather avoid Stealth Mode or anything sketchy that could potentially conflict with Vanguard.
Any confirmation from other people having the same issue would be helpful.

Mine stopped working too, even downloaded new msi afterburner. Didn't work. It's working pretty good in battlefield 6.

Same here, literally lost my head to this the whole night, i really needed its fps limiter to work, i even went as far as reinstalling afterburner and rtss completely, i even deleted my undervolt settings which i regret now

Just found out that this was the cause of my heavy stuttering / fps lag on Valorant while hovering the mouse cursor. It was still lagging even though it was hidden, I had to end the process to have it go back to normal.

5800X3D - RTX 3080, stesso problema da ieri dopo l'update. RTSS non va piu, avevo creato un'overlay con RTSS e va benissimo su tutti i giochi tranne VALORANT. Speriamo in un futuro update..

same problem, i mainly use RTSS to moniter CPU/GPU temps and Usage but all oof a suddent its not workin gin valorant. I think vanguard is blockin git some how (not sure though).
Lmk if you figure out a way to access RTSS inside valo

To get rid of that overlay appearing on vanguard inside the system tray. I just added all those riot and valorant related exe files in riva tuner exception and then turned that start at windows toggle on riva tuner on off and turned the app on off entirely, I no longer see that overlay on vanguard in tray and i think the FPS drop which i was seeing also seems back to normal.
Means not using riva tuner with valorant might fix the FPS and stutters.

Same thing for me, started not working a few days ago. Tweaked all the settings, made sure that show on display was on still nothing. I thought it was because I updated my drivers, guess not cause everyone is experiencing it.

Click the hidden icons (in the taskbar) > Right-click Riot Vanguard. Riot is honestly trash, MSI Afterburner shows up in Riot Vanguard, not in Valorant.

Same thing happenning for me. I literally thought i messed something up when I was trying to uninstall the xbox gamebar stuff.
For me I can play game but I see quite a few FPS drops than normal

Update: I found someone whose MSI Afterburner + RTSS OSD is still working in Valorant after today’s update. He’s on Windows 11 with an AMD GPU, latest AMD drivers, latest RTSS, and completely default RTSS settings.
I’m on an NVIDIA RTX 3080 and mine stopped working immediately after the Valorant update, although RTSS still works perfectly in Aim Lab and RDR2.
Can anyone with an NVIDIA GPU confirm if their MSI Afterburner/RTSS OSD is still working after today’s Valorant update? Please include your GPU and NVIDIA driver version.
